Leverage: The Final Season (2013)

It’s sad to say goodbye to Team Leverage in this final 5th Season DVD. Leader, Nate Ford and his elite crew of specialists take on more greedy CEO’s, corrupt coporations, ruthless sports team managers and their ilk on behalf of the little guys. The “Leverage” formula is still strong throughout these last 15 episodes with solid writing and entertaining story lines all leading to a finale that gives fans the closure they and these characters deserve. It’s evident that Dean Devlin and staff once they knew the show was cancelled crafted the scripts to bring things to a credible endpoint and the final episode is particularly poignant and satisfying (if not a bit maudlin in the closing 10 minutes or so).

The charismatic cast has been a delight to watch; Timothy Hutton as Ford has done an excellent job throughout and made the role believable. Gina Bellman’s Sophie, the beautiful and charming grifter who’s relationship with Nate has evolved over the series is always fun to watch. Christian Kane as Eliot Spencer the team’s muscle and cyber-whiz Aldis Hodge’s Alec Hardison with their constant sparring along with the quirky Parker (Beth Riesgraf) the master thief all were terrific in bringing their parts to life.

My only criticisms are that the Parker/Hardison romance didn’t seem to have much chemistry to me and that a number of plots rely on serendipity quite a bit. Oh, we need someone to act as a professional chef or pro hockey player…Eliot can do both; or need a gymnastics coach- no problem Parker’s an accomplished gymnast (sort of), to name a few instances…a little too convenient if you ask me.

This is a series that didn’t take itself too seriously and is a nice departure from much of the ultra-serious and dark programming out there today. Also worth noting for a cable show is the absence of extreme violence, profanity, sexual content or nudity which personally doesn’t offend me but for those seeking family friendly fare nice to know. I will miss “Leverage” and will watch these shows again in the future- it’s been a blast.

This show is exciting, suspenseful, aaaand funny! The only bummer about this show is that it only has five seasons. The writers really took the time to develop each character as the seasons went on. After a while it really feels like you get to know them. It’s fun to watch the filthy rich bad guys, who usually get away with everything because they can buy their way out- finally get what’s coming to them 🙂 In that aspect it’s very Robin Hoodeskish. Way fun. I was hooked after watching the pilot episode 🙂

MariaNatei am so very sorry that the leverage gang will be no more. i know some reviewers had problems with a couple of seasons, but to me, they were invited into my home every week and boy, did we have fun!

i wanted to see how parker and hardison were going to progress and will miss elliot cringing at parker but still treated her like his little sister, with nate and the “woman known as sophie” finally jazzed up their relationship. they will sorely be missed by me. i have all 5 seasons in my “cloud” and have already started from the beginning to re-see their development from brain, grifter, hacker, thief and demolition man to emerge as a solid and trusted team.
