Nikita: Season 4
DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:
Come on guys, this thing is priced relatively close to what you can get the full 22 episode seasons for and you only have one DVD and no special features?!? Wtf? It’s a cynical money grab since they know if you bought the earlier seasons you’ll want to complete the set. Not cool.
That said, my star rating reflects the DVD set, not the quality of the show. The fourth season was on par with Season 3. I watched them when it originally aired and missed one, so I’m looking forward to getting up to that again. I’m currently on disc 2 of Season 3 and binge watching so I’ll be up to Season 4 soon. Anyway, it’s a wrap up because the network was good enough to not just leave the show hanging after season 3. The main gist is the final shutdown of Division and the Shop trying to get Nikita to go away. You also have the final “battle” with Amanda that wraps up that arc well, though it wasn’t quite the ending I’d have chosen.
If you can get over a completely implausible series where the highly trained bad guys are taken down two and three at a time by the main characters then you’ll enjoy Nikita. I’d highly recommend getting the first three seasons and starting from there. This was a good one to finish out my set, but I think at minimum they should have had a second DVD with special features for the price.

I’ve really enjoyed all 3 earlier seasons of Nikita, and the 4th so far — the acting, storylines and production quality are all excellent. Too bad to see season 4 is the final one, because this is a show I’d watch for many more years. Season 4’s off to a solid start, it would be great if they’d find a way to continue it. Maggie Q’s a great female lead, and the rest of the cast is a solid ensemble. Way to go, guys – thanks for making action-packed, smartly filmed shows. Really enjoying them all – it would be good to see it continue somehow for a 5th/6th season and beyond. It’s great spycraft and engaging to watch, very well done.
The writing’s even better than ever this season, very clever plot twists, focused production and ‘star power’ from MQ and the rest of the team is outstanding. update 12/28 – just watched the series finale, superb writing and acting; i wish all final eps were this well done for other series.
To the cast, writers and crew – this was a series to be proud of; you all set the bar high and overdelivered. Thanks – Nikita was great! Memorable and very well done.
to the action,

Fair warning up front this will contain spoilers from the prior seasons of the show, but no major season 4 giveaways. Proceed with caution if you have not seen the others yet.
The fourth season can really almost be considered an extension of season 3. It is only 6 episodes long, and ties up the various loose ends that were left at the end of season 3. The season starts out with Nikita on the run, wanted for murdering the president. The remnants of Division are tracking her even though she abandoned them “for their own good.” The last handful of episodes are really an attempt to clear her name, and take down Amanda once and for all.
Overall I think the series ended when it should have. It was easily the kind of series that could have gone stale if left on the air too long. While I think they certainly could have got a full run of 22-24 episodes out of the season, there were not many more stories to be told in a Heroes vs Amanda storyline. Like is the case with prior seasons there are twists in this one. Not as many as in the full seasons for obvious reasons, but throughout the season not all is what it seems. The show is ultimately brought to a satisfying conclusion, and even though not everyone makes it out unscathed, it does bring the series a sense of closure and puts each character in a believable place at the end.
For those who get the blu ray (because Amazon lumps all the reviews together), it is a no frills all six episodes on one disc presentation. There are no extras like in previous seasons. Not even deleted scenes. Pretty much all you get is the episodes and captions. The A/V quality of the disc is very good however. But if you only get the discs for extras then you may just want to go with the online streaming.
