Nashville Season 2
DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:
Warning, this will contain some spoilers from season one, and hints, but no major giveaways from season 2.
Nashville is a prime time soap opera with good music. Even classified as a drama, it does not really shy away from the soap opera like elements. So if you are not a fan of those kinds of shows in general, then this is probably not for you. If you are, this is definitely worth taking a look. Even if you are someone, like me, who would never normally turn on a country music station, the songs they use have enough cross-over appeal that you can find most of them very enjoyable.
Story line wise, the second season follows the aftermath of the car crash that occurred while Deacon and Rayna were arguing in the car after he found out Maddie was his daughter. Much of the main story line of the season revolves around that relationship and how it strains the relationship between Teddy and Maddie, and generally affects the entire family. The other large story line involves Rayna starting her own record label, and getting into a new relationship with another very established country superstar who is working for her old label. She ends up signing Scarlett to her label, and much of that story is about Scarlett trying to get an album made and trying to cope with being a music star. Throw in a criminal case against her father, with her sister as a potential witness and it makes for multiple very hectic story lines involving Connie Britton, who does a great job with them all.
Juliette’s various stories involve her being a “bad seed” and being an outcast on the country music scene much of the season. This stemmed from choices she made in her personal life, compounded by statements made in public (which of course were twisted to make it seem like she said something she did not). So much of her story was trying to get from being shunned, finding a healthy relationship and trying to figure out how to not be self destructive. Hayden Panettiere does a great job going between being a snobby brat who is only out for herself, to being very vulnerable by season’s end.
The other big story involved Will struggling with being gay, and doing everything he can to deny it to himself and hide it from everyone else. Including marrying the runner up of an American Idol like show that the record label has brought in to replace Juliette in the tween category. Gunnar being the only one who know his secret does what he can to try to get will to stop living the lie. This leads to some great scenes between Sam Palladio and Chris Carmack.
There are of course other ancillary stories that intersect with the main ones, and the show packs a lot into the 22 episodes. For a show with a large ensemble cast it does a good job giving all the characters something to do, although not everyone has as large a role in every episode.
For those who get the actual DVDs, for bonus material there is a gag reel, deleted scenes and a 40 min music special where the actors talk with the song writers for the show, and then perform some of the songs. All the bonus material is on the last disc. There is not a ton there, but good for what there is. Like I said if you are not a fan of prime time soap opera kind of shows this may not be for you, but if you do not mind the fact that it will get kind of silly at times, especially when it comes to the relationships, the acting is very good, the music is great and it is definitely worth checking out.

I recently got hooked on this show. I saw a random season 4 episode…then watched every episode available on demand that was available (only 3 other season 4 episodes) and I HAD to see the rest. I was hoping it would be available free on Amazon Prime…no such luck…but I HAD to see more of this show. So I paid for season 1, then 2, and finally 3…I couldn’t get enough of this series.
Season 2 was very good in my opinion and the only reason I have it 4 stars instead of 5 is that I didn’t like the music as much as I did in season 1. I can’t believe these seasons are so LONG…I have gotten used to 10 episode seasons on Starz, HBO, and Showtime…so it was very refreshing to be back to a show with 20+ episodes in a season. They fit so much story and plot into each season that it feels like I have seen 6 seasons worth of show.
I’m very happy I stumbled on this show and highly recommend it.

I love this show, I started watching this show during its 3rd season because one day, my regular shows were not on. When the first season promos aired, I recognized a star from General Hospital, and I wanted to watch the first season on tv, but Nashville’s time conflicted with two shows that came on the same day. I was already dvring them due to my second job. When my shows returned, one of them was switched to a new day, well more Nashville for me. I was hooked, and wanted to know the beginning of the Avery and Juliette relationship. So I purchased season one and two, I am still watching season 2, and it is worth my money. I am glad Nashville got picked by another network.
