The Mentalist Season 7

DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. What a great way to start the final season. [Which I secretly hope is NOT the case, but realistically…] Anyway, all the characters were at their best here. Jane and Lisbon, for all that they have been friends and partners for so many years, are adorable working on the details of this new relationship. I was thrilled to see them actually working through their problems like grownups. Cho is, well, Cho and you should never want more because he’s perfection. Abbott is delightful as the all seeing and all knowing Oz. His character is such fun to watch. It’s good to see Wylie back and I hope that they find more for him to do with Jane. Our new agent Vega has definite possibilities and I look forward to learning more about her.

Here’s hoping that the rest of the season has nothing but blue skies.

Glad we at least had a season without any Red John storylines…. I wish that would have ended in Season 3, but I’m OK with how things panned out. I thought I would hate it without Rigsby and Van Pelt, but then I realized how much I didn’t like Van Pelt. The actress is stunningly beautiful, but the character was pretty lame- I felt as though she was the only character who never really developed throughout the whole series.

That being said, I truly enjoyed watching Cho and Lisbon’s character develop and really shine. Cho goes from a loyal and dependable senior team member to a friend, mentor and true leader. Lisbon goes from a good boss to a good friend. Abbott goes from the most annoying person ever to someone you would enjoy sitting down and having a beer with. The fulfillment from watching all these characters grow is really wonderful.

I loved the consistency in Patrick Jane’s character despite his character’s growth- getting his revenge, moving on with his life, admitting all his feelings about everything, etc. It is really a very special character, when you look at how he acts around all the other members of the team…the actor is so nuanced about his character’s chemistry with all the other characters and it is all different. Him and Cho vs him and Rigsby vs him and Abbott vs him and Lisbon vs him and Vega, etc. I am so happy that Jane and Lisbon got together at the end, I really do like how the character is always acting like a little boy around Lisbon…it’s a very sweet way to show a crush over time without being disruptive to the dynamic.

Overall, it was a really great run. Now that rumors of Psych the movie look to be real, I hope they end up making a Mentalist movie soon!

A very sweet and humorous start to the season. One could simply begin here with the show, I suppose, but it would make more sense to watch from the beginning, Season I. The characters and the story-lines will become much clearer if you do. But — it is possible to jump right in and enjoy the entertaining antics of the lead character (Jane) who is a consultant (now) to an FBI team. He was formerly a fake psychic, (he admits he was “fake”) but he actually has great people-reading powers that the police/FBI use to their advantage, much as he also frustrates them by his seeming inability to follow “the rules.” Cho, one of the long-time characters on this show, now an FBI agent, has utterly mastered one-word talking/questioning — it’s hysterical. The exchanges he has with several people are over the top Cho! Lisbon, the leading agent, and Jane have finally moved through their personal blockages (especially Jane — see previous seasons) and have begun a relationship. It’s the first time Lisbon has been able to show anything other than a stern face, and it suits her. She’s a much more interesting actress than I had given her credit for. I hope the writers will continue to give her this leeway to act. Josie Loren will, I think, be an interesting addition, and a surprise one, at that. I like the show, clearly. It’s not intellectually stimulating, the way some British procedurals are, but it is definitely entertaining and I like the direction this season seems to be heading. That’s why the 5 stars; otherwise, four. (Simon Baker is always good to watch — try The Guardian, if you haven’t seen it.)
