Christopher Robin [Blu-ray]
DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:
As “Peter Pan’s” author noted, all children, except one, grow up. This includes Ewan McGregor, who stars in the titular role in “Christopher Robin.” As a child, he spent hours in the Hundred Acre Woods with his toy bear Pooh and various stuffed pals, but after being sent to boarding school where, he correctly points out, they frown on you doing nothing, he matures, then later serves in the armed forces, meets his wife-to-be (Hayley Atwell), has a daughter (Bronte Carmichael) and takes a position in a luggage company which requires him to morph into a workaholic. This means shouldering the burden of saving the company singlehandedly since the boss’s son (Mark Gatiss) is next-to-useless at the task. However, this also means skipping the long awaited Weekend in the Country With Family which is met by stiff-upper-lipped disappointment by both wife and daughter. Or so Ewan believes.
But that’s before Pooh (voiced by Jim Cummings) decides to leave the Hundred Acre Woods and search out his old beloved friend in London. Needless to say, Ewan assumes he’s going mad when he bumps into Pooh who talks, walks and consumes honey (then promptly leaves sticky paw prints all over the carpet). But he’s not, and after a hairy train ride back, Ewan sets forth on a quest to help Pooh find his friends (who’ve mysteriously disappeared probably so there can be some semblance of a plot) again. This will involve falling into a giant pit, multiple attempts to convince his former crew that he’s not a Hefalump, and rescuing Eeyore (a very funny Brad Garrett) from a waterfall. Of course, Ewan also has to return to the real world, reconcile with his family and tell off his boss. Oh, and save the company, too.
This movie has a similar premise to “Hook,” in which an adult Robin Williams returns to Never, Never Land to regain his zest for life. The cast of furry creatures is adorable without being too cutesy, and everyone in my audience, which included people of all ages from the very young up, seemed to enjoy the movie greatly. Fans of Pooh and co. should be pleased with this one.

I would give this a 3 star as a Millennial and one star if I was 10. Unfortunately, I was the last generation to actually love the actual A. A Milne books. I also loved the original Disney movies. I loved that this movie was true to both. So, I loved the movie, the puns, the characters and the concrete example of who those woozles were. The special effects were good and it was fun watching Winnie and the rest of crew rescuing Christopher Robin for a change. Unfortunately, the movie itself will not attract kids or millennials who grew up on the Disney Channel version of Winnie the Pooh. Anyone under 12 cannot even relate the average kid is concrete and would never understand the puns or idioms. However, I loved it and appreciate the characters were true to form. I also thought it was brilliant to make sure the original characters were well depicted in robot form. Great movie for people 35 and older but anyone younger would not understand.
