The Durrells Season 1

DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:

Unlike the first reviewer, I haven’t read the book, but have only seen the TV adaptation which I thought was thoroughly charming, and, what is more likely than not, a very realistic portrayal of the frustrations and angst a single mother with 4 uncooperative grown children would experience living abroad with virtually no income to speak of. There are plenty of lighthearted and very humorous moments to keep the viewer engrossed in the unfolding tale of their discovering a new home country. The casting is impeccable, and the story proceeds with a good measure of intrigue and comedic moments to maintain a captive audience. This is one of those shows I could watch over and over and never grow tired of it.-P. Miller

I feel ripped off. I assumed this would be what I saw on PBS. I bought it as a gift. in fact, several of the best scenes and story lines are edited out of this “British” version. It’s a British production after all, so arent they all British versions? It should have been made clear on the description that this is NOT WHAT WAS SHOWN IN THE U.S. It’s not nearly so enjoyable as what I watched on PBS with so many of the most colorful scenes and little story lines clipped out. I can’t give this as the gift I intended. It will be thrown in the trash-Vuvuzela

I have not read the books, so can only comment on the DVDs. I throughly enjoyed them. I loved how the family members interacted and grew during the series. It was funny, sad, surprising and kept me looking forward to the next episode. I have watched it twice and will do so again, I’m sure.-Maxine
