Molly’s Game

Has anybody else seen this yet? Because I’ve had it for a short time & have watched it 4 times. And now that I’m talking abt it I may watch it again. Chastain is brilliant. Not only does she look like the real Molly but she is perfect as Molly. I thought this was about a woman who was once in the Olympics and then turned to a life of crime. Boy was I wrong! In actuality if I had a child, I could only hope and could not be prouder if she turned out with just a quarter of Molly’s wits, loyalty, morals, intelligence and ethics. Kevin Costner is also in it and plays her father. I wish he were in more of it. He was great in it. Of course you should see him in Criminal!! There is a scene with Molly & her father that made me cry, however I cry at anything touching, but this scene is very poignant, it is near the end wher he tells her “ sorry cannot give it away.-rabbitmandrew

If you liked West Wing and Newsroom, both Aaron Sorkin creations, and appreciate really good dialog, this movie stands out. Not so much for a boomerang, twist and turn plot, but rather a movie where every character no matter the role, seem perfectly interesting in so many ways.- Roger Moore

Theater review. Possible spoilers. As an admitted fan of Aaron Sorkin’s writing style going back to 1995’s “The American President” and on to television’s “Sports Night” and “The West Wing,” I was eager to see what he could do for the first time behind the camera. If anything, he’s a bit more reserved than I was expecting, allowing his main actors, Idris Elba and especially Jessica Chastain to carry the ball. His screenplay is just about what you would expect. It’s fast, technical and funny.The story is about Molly Bloom (Chastain), whose Olympic skiing opportunity was cut short by an evergreen twig during the trials. Prior to entering law school, Molly decides to take some time off and have some fun. So she moves to Los Angeles, from Colorado and works at a series of jobs until she becomes the personal assistant to Dean Keith (Jeremy Strong). For the record, although the film is based on Bloom’s own book, the real names of the participants have been changed.- M. Oleson
