Alien 6-film Collection [Blu-ray]

DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:

This is the best set to get if you want all the Alien Films. It has the original and extended cuts of the first four movies on each Bluray Disc.. It also has the digital versions of all the movies. The digital version for the first four are the theatrical, not the extended cut. At least, that’s what happened when I redeemed them on Vudu.

It would have been nice to include both cuts digitally; considering both come on the discs and both do exist in digital stores.

But, this set is still a lot less expensive than buying these movies directly from Vudu.

The set also includes mini posters for each of the six films. They’re about the size of a standard Bluray case and slip into the box this comes in. They look very nice and I’m glad to have them. I think I’m going to hang them with wall hanging putty on my walls.

This might not be a go for those who already own the Bluray box set of the original four; or own the original four as singles. I owned the original four on DVD; but held off on getting any of the Alien Films on Bluray or Digital until this box came out because I knew it would be the best price to get them all.

The only two Alien movies not here are Aliens VS Predator 1 and 2. That said, I already have those two in a two movie Bluray box set.

As far as I can tell from research online, the disc contents are identical to their release as singles. This is a great value box set with some nice posters in them for people like me know never owned these movies on the Bluray and Digital formats before.

The discs for the first 4 movies included in this collection are exactly the same as the Anthology collection discs that were also released individually…right down to the artwork on the discs. Like the original releases both the theatrical and director’s cut/special edition version are included on each disc. Also included in this collection are the newer movies Prometheus and Alien Covenant which makes this the only collection currently available that includes every movie to date.

What’s missing is disc 5 and 6 from the Anthology collection release meaning there are no bonus features for the first 4 movies other than the alternate versions and commentary tracks. This is somewhat strange as the movie discs have an interactive viewing mode that lets you queue up video clips that will play when you insert the bonus discs…but they clearly aren’t there to use this feature. Also the bonus disc from Prometheus is not present.

The packaging is about 50% wider than a standard case with a slipcover. As a bonus you get miniature posters with the original artwork and individual codes for each of the movies. These codes are for the theatrical versions but…here’s what I would consider the saving grace of this release: If you load the digital copies through MoviesAnywhere you can access the alternate cuts an ALL of the bonus features including those from the three missing bonus discs.

The audio/video quality is pretty good. It makes the movies look much newer than they are. However Resurrection looks indiscernible from DVD quality… Not a great transfer and clearly not remastered. The video first two movies clearly have the most care put into their transfer.

This is a budget release, the price for what you get is a good value, but it’s not by any means the definitive collection.

So from the reviews I was to understand that you only get the digital codes for the theatrical versions of the movies. Still thinking it a good value, I made my purchase and yes, only the theatrical versions on Vudu are what was offered. However, when I opened the film in Movies Anywhere, ALL the alternate editions were available as a special feature down where the extras are. So, better value than expected.
