As Time Goes By: Remastered Series Complete

DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:

The one star doesn’t reflect the series, one of the absolute best ever produced by the BBC. The one star reflects the remastering. The colors, detail and audio are first rate for a non Bluray product but there is a significant problem you should look out for, the jerky nature of the transfer. Think of a skipping record. Any scene with motion jerks across the screen. I will be returning the set and hopefully the replacement will not have this problem. I have just retired as a PBS station Program Director after 42 years and I can tell you from experience working with the BBC that this problem doesn’t surprise me. Over the past decade or so it has been about dollars (or pounds in their case) rather than providing good customer service from either the retail level or the station level. Very sad.- Amazon Customer

I was surprised at the reviews below regarding the quality of the production. We purchased this set and found it to be high quality. It was a television show remember, not a Hollywood movie. What you get on these DVDs are as good as what you get when watching a television show. So they are fine. The colors, sharpness, audio are great. We have a fairly new widescreen SONY TV if that makes any difference for the techies out there. My husband adjusted the settings on the TV to improve the DVD appearance. Sorry, I’m not techie enough to describe what he did but if you are one of those, you will know. It made it sharper, colors better. All the discs were fine, no damages as described by a previous reviewer. I’m not a fan either of the packaging but there are so many discs, maybe this is the only way they can keep the cost contained. Be careful and keep the discs in order. Sadly they are not all labelled in a consistent way and if you mix up the discs you’ll have to pay attention to which season you’ve got. There’s Disc One Season One, then further down in the stack is Disc One Season 7. So if you mix them up, go by the seasons. Essentially, they have combined discs from when the seasons were sold individually. Anyway– As Time Goes By was a wonderful show and it’s great to be able to watch them all again. Don’t let the negative reviews discourage you from buying the DVDs. They are great and you will be enthralled. I have no affiliation in any way with Amazon or the DVD company. The reviews almost convinced me not to buy but because of the return policy I went ahead.- Homebeforedark

Although I had seen other reviews on another version of this “Remastered” title, I had hoped that the higher priced version would be the correct one. Alas, it was not, and this “Newly Remastered Edition” would appear to be of a marketing ploy, or someone has cornered the market on “Ripped” DVD video. This endearing BBC comedy is totally marred by poor video resolution. The audio is good, but the video quality is sub-standard – generally no better than -if not worse (!) than the large boxed set originally released. Placing Disc 1 into my Blu-ray player (though my discs are not BD in themselves) – the loading takes forever and causes strange noises from my fairly new Sony BD player. Once the disc does load, it goes right to episode one – totally missing any previews and the main menu. And trying to back out to the main menu from this point is another noisy time consuming wait. The entire season one is blurry – the title lettering is very jagged on the edges and causes difficulty in reading. -Kenneth E Wood Jr
