Being a huge fan of the “Evil Dead” movies and Bruce Campbell, I was extremely happy when I saw a commercial on the Starz channel advertising “Ash vs Evil Dead.” The series exceeded my expectations. In season one, Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell) has led a normal existence for some thirty years after his last encounter with the deadites. Being his usual baked and drunken self, Ash reads aloud from the Necronomicon (the book of the dead) to impress a woman. That unleashes an evil dead plague that threatens to destroy all of mankind. Armed with his trusty chainsaw and boomstick, Ash returns to his hometown of Elk Grove, Michigan to battle evil. He is aided by fellow fighters Pablo Simon Bolivar (Ray Santiago) and Kelly Maxwell (Dana DeLorenzo). Ash alternately fights with and against the wicked Ruby Knowby (Lucy Lawless). Of course, Ash also returns to the cabin in the woods where the evil was unleashed in the first movie.
In the second season, Ash reunites with his estranged father Brock Williams (Lee Majors). It’s obvious that the apple didn’t fall far from the tree. In the third and final season, Ash meets the daughter he never knew he had, Brandy (Arielle Carver-O’Neill). “Ash vs Evil Dead” is not for the faint of heart or those easily offended. The gore is extremely explicit, with buckets of blood and body parts in abundance. The demons and deadites are frightening and grotesque. The dialogue is peppered with profanities. Fortunately, the bleakness is balanced out by the tongue-in cheek, over-the-top humor, especially in the form of anti-hero Ash Williams. As for the final showdown between flawed goodness and the ultimate evil, I will only reveal that the ending is GROOVY!

If you like “Evil Dead” and “Army of Darkness”, like I do, you will probably enjoy this series.
It delivers plenty of the over the top gore and crude humor of the films and then some.
Sure, the Ash Williams character in this series is not quite the same guy as he was in the Evil Dead films, or Army of Darkness, but whose personality wouldn’t change after 30 years of living like this character.
Yeah, the cover art of this 3 season pack is pretty lame, but it’s not that big of a deal to me.

Great show it sucks that they took it off the air. The whole show feels very faithful to the films especially with Sam Raimi involved with the show. Feel like one long great b movie film. Tons of action, humor, and one liners. My only grip with it is the ending just makes you wish it could of went on because it just kind of ends in what seems to be the setup for another great season. It connects with all the films to. The evil dead films are not for everyone and nor is this show but if you like what I described I highly recommend picking this up it’s a steal at this price.
