Billions Season 2
DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:
Damian Lewis is, as always, excellent. Perfect protrayal of a trading firm owner/billionaire character. The character development and writing – all top notch. The new addition of Taylor, the super smart prodigy really accentuates the dominant and suberb Bobby Axlerod (Damian Lewis). The sub-plots are very engaging and speak more to human nature than one would expect from a show named “Billions”. The power structures involved at the highest levels of business and politics are well represented. The dynamics of money, power and influence for political and legal positioning are very well nuanced and believable.
Paul Giamatti is not what you’d expect going in to the show but he pulls the character off marvellously. Maggie Siff (Paul Giamattis’ wife in the show) juggles being the psych doctor/therapist for Axe Capital (and Damian’s character, Bobby Axlerod) and the ensuing framework for her moral code emerges. She could have another show built around her character. Her acting delivers refined sub plots that give the show it’s refreshing depth.
Great writing, great acting, great character development and additions, all on a backdrop of the wealth, influence and power New York seems to visually exude (not unlike The Devil’s Advocate).
Watch it. It’s definitely worth the time.

I can’t believe the ego’s of Chuck Rhoades (Giamatti) and Bobby “Axe” Axelrod (Lewis). Season 2 starts out with it looking like Chuck’s dirty tricks are going to do him in but then the seasons flips and it looks like Bobby is in trouble.
Bobby did something he claims he never did before, that is, lie to his wife and that drives a wedge between them. Although not on the same level as Chuck’s earlier unethical act, it certainly put a wedge between Chuck and his wife Wendy.
I think that what drives Chuck the most is the need to win at all cost especially against Bobby who employs his wife.
This is like an adult soap opera. It’s addicting. I hope that Bobby’s fate is reversed in Season 3 and that the Chuck & his father get theirs for all the dirty tricks they did. Since we don’t have cable we’ll have to wait for the release to DVD.

Really enjoyed season 1 and embarked on season 2 after having read reviews that it wasn’t that great, it was cliche, just little vignettes and sidebar conversations with no meat. Boy were they were wrong. It’s about people, the good, bad, and just pathetic. I appreciated the intelligence, the confidence, the pain, twists, and surprises. There may be nothing new under the sun, but I sure enjoyed seeing it again. Looking forward to season 3!
