Black Sails Season 3

If you haven’t watched Black Sails, this is perhaps the best show on television and, in my opinion, it doesn’t get anywhere near the recognition it deserves. Season 3 was another very solid season that had me on the edge of my seat. They added one major new location and a few new major characters this season, and it was all phenomenally well done. After purchasing the season, I’ve binge watched it twice in a row in the first two weeks of owning it and I can’t wait for Season 4! I highly recommend this show to anyone that likes pirates, period dramas, history, well done action, or fast paced shows.- Josh

Season 3 begins, offering great promise. Taking place a number of months after the events that took place in season 2’s finale, the war for Nassua has begun. In addition, Black Beard is finally introduced. I’ve been waiting anxiously for his integration into the series since the very first episode of Black Sails. I have a feeling that Ray Stevenson (Black Beard) will be a great addition to the cast.

As far as production value goes, Blacks Sails is not lacking. The CGI is on par with many mega-budget movies, probably second to only Game of Thrones. Starz certainly sees the potential that this series brings to their network, and has continued to improve upon it season after season. If you are a fan, you will be pleased to here that Season 4 has already been ordered.

This is an amazing show. Lord of the rings level quality in story and cinematography. Oh, sure there is incredible action scenes and the spectacle of sailing ships. But what makes this series awesome is the insight into human nature. The juxtaposition of romance and the drive to matter, to make a difference, to have a purpose. The evil of governments so paralleled by the violence of the “criminal” pirates. And all the while, the elements of storytelling used by those in power use to lure the common folk into sacrificing themselves for their goals. This series conveys more than a university degree in politics, psychology and literature. Entertaining, dramatic and we get to learn a bit while being wowed. The West Wing is the only other series I consider to be in this elite class.
