Code Black Season 2

DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:

Episode 9 – no spoilers, but turn off the phones, computers, and tablets. Put the “Gone Fishing” sign in the front window and do not forget the tissues when you sit down and watch it. I usually give new shows a season to get my interest – to make a story that thoroughly engrosses me – but Code Black had me by episode 3 of the first season. I was definitely holding my breath when CBS took their time announcing whether there would be a season 2. I was a little put off initially when the cast changes were announced – not being a big fan of Rob Lowe’s prior work – but his Ethan Willis character is excellent. As the wife of a military retiree, I’ve met the “Willis’ ” who buck the system and break the rules for quality patient care. It is rare when a fictional character elicits a sense of respect from me. It is well worth your time to at least give it a try.-Susie

Your basic hospital drama, emergency room sub-genre, enlivened by some sharp (if occasionally contrived) writing, good production values and normally excellent performances by the cast led by the awesome Marcia Gay Harden and the too often underrated Luis Guzman. This season Rob Lowe joins the cast as an Army surgeon attached to Angels Memorial for some obscure reason. Pet peeve: For crying out loud its not that hard to get military uniforms right or do they just not care? This is dead simple and their costume people screw it up every @#$%^& time. If they’re that stuck check with the local recruiters who would be thrilled to put you straight. Also. what’s with Mr. Lowe’s weird haircut?- Al Hence

We’ve been anxiously waiting for s2 to arrive as we so enjoyed s1. We weren’t disappointed. Code Black is just great TV. With realistic cases within an overworked ER we see all the stresses and strains of solving medical crises when there’s not a moment to spare. We get to see wonderful examples of team work, of leaders coaching newbies, of mistakes being made with sometimes dire consequences, and the challenges of making critical decisions on the fly.

Marcia Gay Harden is fabulous as the caring Doc who all the others look up to for her smarts, her ability and her compassion. Rob Lowe is also great as the daredevil Doc who challenges conventional thinking but at all times has only the one concern: to save his patient’s life. Luis Guzman as Mamma Jesse is a passionate head nurse who has unwavering support for his leader, Marcia Gay Harden.- Ian Acheson
