Dead Ringers [Blu-ray]

DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:

In an interview, Dead Ringers (1988) director, David Cronenberg, said this was not a horror movie, but a “psychological drama.” Nevertheless, Cronenberg’s psyche seems to be conjoined with horror like Siamese twins as elements of horror prevail in the climax and subtly in other scenes, e.g. crimson-clad Dr. Beverly Mantle’s drug-induced failed attempt to operate on a mutant woman with 10 ghoulish instruments, as well as the grotesque flesh-eating dream scene. Since I didn’t watch the bonus features until after the movie, I went into the film expecting horror–and wasn’t displeased. And, super fine acting was delivered in this film as well.Dead Ringers was the 9th Cronenberg film that I’ve seen, and I absolutely love his creative, bizarre, provocative work. I have the Warner Brothers 2005 release of this film on DVD, which has some cool bonus features. However, if the price was right for Criterion’s version, I would make the investment -G Willy

The ultimate psycho-sexual thriller with all of the Cronenberg bizarre brilliance, invention and twisted humor – but finally, very touching. Much credit to a fantastic, one-for-the-ages, dual performance by Jeremy Irons. This is a very important film in Cronenberg’s evolution and has to be near the top of his unique and influential filmography. David Cronenberg is a true auteur – the real thing.-Neuromancer

Profoundly moving, made me sob at the end, just heart-beaking when Bev was repeating “Elliot.” What an incredible actor Irons is. An artistic movie, almost like a fairy tale but better.-Tantra Bensko
