Gotham Season 4
DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:
The fourth season of Gotham returned to being very good to great after what was, at least in my opinion, a not as good third season. All of the main villains returned, and even have a couple additions, most notably in the form of Sophia Falcone, Don Falcone’s daughter. We also see Jim rise in the ranks of the GCPD, through means that are less than noble. This season also sees Salmon Grundy, yet another DC TV incarnation of Ra’s al Ghul, this time played by Alexander Siddig, Scarecrow and the return of Jerome still playing the is he or isn’t he The Joker. Cameron Monaghan pretty much steals the last third of the season and his actions set up what is likely to be a very wild final (albeit shortened) season.
The show does a good job balancing the large ensemble cast. Although not every character gets an episode centered around him or her, I think all the characters had good material to work with throughout the course of the season. It also is doing a good job of developing the characters, especially Bruce and Selina who are definitely growing toward their ultimate alter egos. Although it is still hard to picture David Mazouz as Batman since he is still a teenager it is more believable that he could eventually get to that point than it was even last season.
The show ultimately sticks to its roots as being about the city and not necessarily centered on any one character. It has shown how the city spirals down to the point where it needs Batman. While the origin is a bit different than what we have seen before where much of Bruce’s development growing up is glossed over or skipped altogether, the show has done a good job telling its own story.
For those who get the blu-ray discs, it looks and sounds great. Especially the better TV you have. For extras, there are deleted scenes for some episodes, a couple behind the scenes features and an almost hour-long comic-con segment featuring about 10 minutes from the panels for Gotham, Flash, Supergirl, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow, as well interviews with the various actors from each show from the autograph sessions. Good for what is there. The only drawback is that the set (as pretty much all the “regular” blu-ray sets for the WB shows) do not have a season play or play all feature that allows you to pick back up where you leave off if you stop. So you pretty much have to finish an episode then stop the player and remember which episode is next unless you can sit through 22 episodes back-to-back.
By now, most people who are considering getting this know what the show is. If you have generally liked or loved it up to this point, then you will probably like or love this season. If you were a bit down on season three I do think this one was better. On the other hand, if you have not been a fan up to now, there is probably nothing about this season that would get you watching it.

I greatly enjoyed seasons one through three which had lots of rich character development. Season 4 Has been Lame, with not much character development. Feels like we are just trying to move the story along quickly since they know it has been canceled next season. I think the actor playing Bruce Wayne is Miscast. Can’t ever believe him as becoming Batman. Just a whiny teenager. Not like Tom Welling, who did an amazing job in Smallville. The rest of the cast is very good, but the writing has really suffered this season. In fairness, I have only watched the first four episodes. The fifth episode, on disk one, started sticking and then completely jammed. Had to disassemble my DVD player to get it out. On closer inspection I noticed it had several stains and marks on the disk. Some of which could be cleaned off, some not. This was purchased as a new item on Amazon.com services Inc. But it clearly is not new. Will not trust the remaining discs. Also this would put it past the 30 day return date. So I am returning the item and giving up on the show. All round let down.

I just finished watching this season and can barely remember anything about it, besides how awful it is. S4 was like a broken down car, stuck in the mud, spinning it’s wheels, going nowhere. The Ra’s al Ghul storyline was boring, so was the Faclone Daughter snorefest, and all the good bad guys like Penguin and Riddler have become neutered wimps who barely do anything. It was just a terrible season that felt like it absolutely went nowhere and just wasted the viewer’s time. I’m glad the network is ending the series because obviously the writers have no idea how to write anything remotely interesting anymore.
