Heartland Season 10

DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:

As each season progresses I think I love Heartland more and more. I remember being so stoked months ago when an eleventh season was okayed. Season 10 basically boils down to a countdown to Amy’s delivering her baby. To fill in the edges of the ongoing narrative, the writers contrived a plot to dispatch Ty to Mongolia to save endangered Gobi bears, and it’s commendable of Ty, really, except, dammit, the timing sucks. What a harsh decision. I dunno if I have it in me to leave behind my new wife pregnant with our first child. Ty’s not being much in Season 10 is a big, big quibble of mine.

And, to be upfront, I didn’t give a what about the scenes of Ty in Mongolia. I was that frustrated he wasn’t home with Amy. I was more into what was going on in Heartland: with Georgie’s exploits with the stunt-performing Extreme Team; with my increasing anxiety over what’s unfolding between Lou and Mitch (sorry, but I’m on Team Peter); with Jack’s being gruff and wise and wonderful and trying to recreate a recipe without his trusty old stew jar; and with the infinite ways Tim could put his foot in his mouth while having the best of intentions.

I love these characters so much. Even side characters like Jade and Lisa have long ago grown on me. I marvel at how I get so excited to tune in to a show that doesn’t generate the “excitement” of gun play and risqué stuff and excessive brooding. Heartland is a show about a very special family and how they make even the minutiae of everyday living so fun and fascinating. The secret, of course, is that if you like someone, really like someone, as much as we like the folks at Heartland, then you don’t much mind spending time with them, even if it’s during whatever mundane activity in a humdrum venue. It’s about the company you keep. And when I say “humdrum venue,” I, of course, refer to the rolling hills, the vast fields of grazing land, the spectacular mountains, and the stunning panoramas that constantly arrest the eye. And by “mundane activity” I mean loving and fighting and doing right by each other and, also, riding and training and keeping company with horses, some of whom have personalities enough that they’re regarded as supporting characters in their own right.

I echo the impassioned grousing of the other Heartland addicts who don’t inhabit Canada. It is SO DAMN HARD to get access to current episodes. And the DVD releases take forever to come out. So, yeah, I’ve become like that crack addict doing whatever he has to do to get a fix. And here comes Season 11, and here I go again, getting on YouTube and clicking on crap videos that’ve been speeded up and the sound tweaked and been pictured in picture. The things I do to enjoy family-friendly programming.
