MIDSOMER MURDERS: Series 6
DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:
DCI Tom Barnaby (John Nettles) and his slightly dim sidekick (Daniel Casey as Sgt Troy) take on more murders in this, their sixth series. The first episode (A Talent for Life) details the odd doings of the Malham Bridge Fly Fishing Club. It stars Honor Blackman as an unconventional woman not beyond slapping someone in the face then claiming it was a public service of a sort. Sadly, she does not make it through the entire episode. As usual, Sgt Troy is driven to make a Gay slur and is caught referring to the elderly as “wrinklies.” Barnaby’s daughter Cully, formally an actress in the series, is now driving a mobile library. No word why she gave up the theater. The second mystery (Death and Dreams) involves several twisted murders. Sgt Troy plays the spoons while Cully continues to drive a mobile library. Sgt Troy also makes a snide suggestion that Barnaby might have cheated on his wife. And while he’s perennially stupid, Troy also kisses Cully. Meanwhile, Barnaby is almost strangled to death. Mystery number three (Painted in Blood) features bad art, bad cops, and an insult or two……”surely you’re too young to be a sergeant.” Missing money turns up in the strangest place. The fourth mystery (A Tale of Two Hamlets) leaves a difficult actor in pieces. “It was a big explosion so he was somewhat dispersed.” No one appears particularly aggrieved by his demise. Lastly, (Birds of Prey) eggs feature prominently in a series of deaths while someone is awfully keen on taking a trip to Africa. And now Cully is almost working at another job.-As always, the mysteries remain absorbing (and sometimes frustrating). It’s a good series to collect.- Einsatz
I bought all the re-issues of this series to get the subtitles. My hearing is not what it used to be so they are essential for most every TV show I watch. These DVDs are very good and instead of having one episode per disc there are now two per disc which reduces storage space. The story is the same, excellent acting and just an enjoyable series. The only thing that is different, which is really minor, is that the extras included on the original DVDs are pretty much gone from this re-issue. The Midsomer maps are still there and a few production notes but the cast biographies and other extras are not. I kept my originals just in case I want to peruse any of the extra material. Overall this is and excellent series and a great value.- Pangloss
First of all, I’m a huge fan of MSM’s. Have seen every episode to date, some many times (ie Murders at Badger’s Drift). So, I enjoyed this year, too. Just re-watched Death and Dreams, which has to be one of the more bizarre murder plots I’ve ever seen. The entire series is simply great. What really tickles me is to watch the character actors and observe how they develop their character. Excellent acting and work.-Diana Faith Adair
