NYPD Blue Season 11
DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:
I am a hard-boiled native New Yorker, baby-boomer, so I have personally lived through the urban social evolution described by these episodes of NYPD Blue. I have met cops like many of the characters and the writing is dead accurate for this show. Each boxed set is a true gem, and I have pre-ordered the set for the final season. I don’t get emotional over very many TV shows. I grew up with 5 TV stations when we were one of 5 families on the block with TV, so I learned to separate TV fantasy from reality a long time ago. But the writing and acting on this show are so genuinely accurate that NYPD Blue really touches nerves and pulls heartstrings.- L. Rolston
Definitely among the best shows ever. The character development is so patiently constructed – it evolves over a 12 season span. Some elements are not even fully realized until you are deep into the show; many seasons into the shown. This is great script writing at its best; founded on this idea of a patient audience who wants more than instant gratification and a cheap quick but ultimately unsatisfying ‘fix.’ Instead this show requires you to evolve with the characters. Dennis Franz’s portrayal is stand-alone – one of the great character studies of all time. The detective you love to hate; then hate to love, then learn to love. And it takes all 12 seasons to go through that arc. Well worth it.- Michael H. Haussler
The eleventh season of NYPD Blue is filled with high drama, strong plotlines, and great acting. This was the last season for Esai Morales as Lt. Tony Rodriguez. After Capt. Fraker is acquitted of attempted murder, Rodriguez grows embittered with the job and puts in his papers. But not before starting a romance with Det. Rita Ortiz on his way out. Andy and Connie decide to get married after discovering that Connie’s pregnant with yet another son for Andy. Before she goes, though, a bomber handcuffs himself to her in the squad room in one of the season’s most intense episodes. Baldwin begins a long storyline involving a 13-year-old boy named Michael who witnesses his father Craig kill Michael’s mother. After Lt. Rodriguez leaves the squad, none other than loudmouth Eddie Gibson is named the new squad commander. As Andy asks, is it April Fool’s Day? This move leads to Eddie bringing in Stan Hatcher as a new detective, which begins another long storyline pitting Stan against Andy in a battle for the squad. Zack Morris, I mean John Clark, continues to develop as a solid detective, despite getting distracted by his new girlfriend, Doctor Jennifer Devlin. This also turns into an extended story, as John finds himself trying to save another loved one from their own demons. And, one of the real highlights of the season, Diane Russell guests in several consecutive episodes! She starts to seem like a part of the squad again around the third episode. It’s great seeing her character come back, as they rarely bring anyone back on this show. Even though several key castmembers had left by Season 11, the writers and core of the show kept it alive and well during its last couple years. Season 12 would be the final season, but it was as strong as ever right up to the end. Season 11 proves it one episode after another.- J. Hill
