Actress Maslany plays seven different roles (clones) in the series and has a continuity team to keep her from mixing up the various characters.

To develop his character Felix, Jordan Gavaris used glam rockers Mick Jagger and Billy Idol for inspiration.

To create the clone scenes, Maslany does one take with a double and then repeats the scene with a different double. The two takes are layered together during editing.

The show has a science consultant whose real-life name is Cosima, the same as one of the lead characters.

Co-creator and director John Fawcett has said the movie Memento was a major inspiration for the Orphan Black series.
