Outsiders Season 2
DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:
The second season of the Kentucky-set drama “Outsiders” picks up right after the end of Season 1, with the mountain folk ready to fight Wade (Thomas M. Wright) and his team under the stormy weather. As Wade wakes up in a hospital bed, it’s revealed that the battle was only a dream and the sheriff injured himself while running away from the confrontation. Meanwhile, G’Wyn (Gillian Alexy) is finally made the Bren’in of the clan, despite some turmoil among the members. Meanwhile, Lil Foster (Ryan Hurst) goes into town to look for his father, who was seemingly murdered. Three shocking events shake up the rest of the season: Big Foster (David Morse) makes his return to the clan, having survived his gunshot wound thanks to the help of a family; Lil Foster is arrested for Breece’s murder; and, most surprisingly, Asa (Joe Anderson) is attacked and killed by three wolves, in a way that might give credence to the clan’s beliefs in the supernatural.
WGN America’s “Outsiders” started out on shakier ground last season, but by the last quarter of episodes it throttled up its storytelling and grew into the series it wanted to be all along: a rough-and-tumble character-driven soap set in two worlds that are at odds.
That’s truer still in season two as “Outsiders” becomes a true ensemble as interested in its mountain clan as the sometimes more compelling blue collar folks in the town below. But before it gets there, producers jettison an element of the show’s premise. Ultimately, it proves a wise move that eliminates story duplication, but the manner in which the writers plot this course correction comes off as abrupt — with characters that should care more moving on with little pause.
Newly minted Farrell leader G’win (Gillian Alexy) rallies her clan, which has mysteriously shrunk back to the dozens as opposed to the hundreds who appeared ready for battle in the season one finale (more mountain magic, perhaps?).
