Rebecka Martinsson Series 1

I first met Rebecka Martinsson in the Asa Larsson books – SUN STORM, THE BLOOD SPILT, etc. and loved the 5-book series. The TV series, Rebecka Martinsson, seems to be loosely based on Larsson’s books. While not as compelling as the books, I still enjoyed the TV series. The acting was great, the setting (Kiruna, Sweden) was cold and foreboding, adding to the darkness of the plots. Rebecka is a complicated character with a painful past. She teams up with Inspector Anna-Maria Mella (another character who seems more interesting in the books than the TV version) to investigate the crimes.
I would love to see a Series 2 but Larsson has only written 5 Martinsson books thus far, so I am not sure what the future holds for the TV series.
For those who want more Rebecka, the movie “Solstorm” (based on the first book SUN STORM) was released in 2007 in Sweden but I am not sure if this is readily available for viewing.

If you love Swedish and Danish TV series, you’ll love this. “Rebecka” is an attorney in a prestigious Stockholm law firm who returns to her rural hometown to bury her surrogate mother. She has an uncanny ability to solve crimes and solves the mystery of that death. She remains in her hometown and becomes a Prosecutor who works with the Police to solve crimes. This series outlines 3-stories told in 2-parts. I loved it. The setting is thick forests with frozen lakes, blankets of snow, dark, cloudy days, barking dogs and homemade Moonshine. All the actors are wonderful and the stories excellent. “Rebecka” is a flawed character, which makes her interesting. I hope there is a Season 2!

I loved this show and season. The way in which there are 2 episodes per ‘story’ while continuing the running plot of the series is very much like Shetland and Hinterland. Love these shows and now here is a new one to add to my list. Great cast in the running series. All episodes are unique but also continue the story line really well. The cast is spectacular! Beautiful cinematography. Beautiful landscape! Hope there will be a season 2 soon!
