Reign begins its third season with Mary and Francis realizing that they are more powerful together than apart, believing there is hope for them to move forward, leaving behind the anger and hurt. It also introduces us to another royal court, that of Elizabeth, “Virgin” Queen of England.
Began by watching seasons 1&2 on Netflix. Amazon was the only place we could find to purchase the first half of the 3rd season before the second half started in April on the CW. Was quickly hooked! This show is based loosely in the history of Mary Queen of Scotts. I love that there is some historical basis. Most of the show seems to match with the accounts of her life. Quite interesting. The show sets and costumes are eloborate and beautiful. You really feel like you are in the time period. The plots are mostly quite interesting and there is no shortage of action. The plot doesn’t take the easiet road and keeps you wanting more. Excellent show! So highly recommend.

Before I share my opinion, I feel the need to explain that the people who created this series know it is not exactly historically accurate–and that’s quite alright with me! Containing all the pomp and circumstance of an historical drama but far from stuffy, Reign allows you to see the somewhat fictionalized early years of Mary, queen of Scots, played by Adelaide Kane. As the main character, Kane commands the role in a way befitting a queen, and the supporting cast–especially Megan Follows as Catherine de Medici–is exceptionally talented. The third season introduces viewers to Mary’s main rival–Queen Elizabeth of England–and in doing so weaves an intricate web of plots, lies and scandals throughout the season’s eighteen episodes. Every episode is filled with twists and turns, and it is one of a few shows that changes drastically over the course of a season. Without giving anything away, once you’ve watched this you will certainly be counting down the days to the fourth season! Long may she reign!

I am a direct descendant of both Mary Queen of Scots and Queen Elizabeth. King Henry the VIII is my 21st Great Grandfather and by marriage to Catherine Parr, His 6th wife, also my 16th Great Uncle, and I have heard about these people all of my life and have probably read and watched most of everything ever written and made in regards to these people, and this is not historically accurate, but it is great fun and done very very well, and the costumes as equally as great. And unfortunately, the real facts of the life of Mary Stuart are not nearly as grand, but as for a story sliding from facts to fiction, Reign is the best of all….I have watched seasons 1 through 3 several times and it has been wonderfully great story, and love it more each time, and can hardly wait to see more…..So, to all of the cast of Reign, well done and thank you all, so very much.
