Scandal Season 4

DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:

Olivia Pope has dedicated her life to protecting and defending the public images of the nation’s elite by keeping those secrets under wraps. Pope’s team are at the top of their game when it comes to getting the job done for their clients, but it becomes apparent they have trouble fixing those closest at hand, their own.

This show is the Best Drug on TV! Shonda Rhymes’ production grabbed me by the throat in its first episode and hasn’t loosened its grip since, with some of the best writing on the home screen. Wildly inventive plot-lines and -twists, 24-karat gold performances from every actor in the cast, and a relentless, often-breathtaking pace will leave every viewer licking his chops with satisfaction. Particularly good is Bellamy Young as First Lady Mellie Grant, whose voluptuous beauty is made all the greater by her emotional honesty, her unflinching bravery in conveying the story’s darkest emotions. While Olivia is the obvious “White Hat”, Mellie provides the undeniable and much-needed “White Heart” for the enterprise. (Darby Stanchfield is another sterling performer — a close runner-up to “most lovable” Mellie. ) As an old-timer who’s seen all TV has to offer, SCANDAL keeps astonishing with its ability to go “where no man has gone before”… and thank you, MS. Rhymes for the incredible update!!

Wowie kazowie! As a Shonda Rhimes fan, I thought it was huge about her writing out Derek in Greys Anatomy. But losing Cyrus & Mellie, both at once? (I know they didn’t die, like Derek did, but this is TV and loss is measured differently, I think, than in real life). And while I’ve always liked Olivia as a character, though she is sometimes a little too heroic for my taste, I now find myself clearly a member of Team Mellie. (And not just because we have the same name, although I do find that a little endearing).

And how unfair, what happened at the end of the show! Mellie may have (unwittingly) killed a shuttle load of people, but didn’t Fitz (knowingly) arrange to shoot down a whole plane load of passengers? That’s what I seem to recall, anyhow. I don’t know if this outcome for Mellie is a result of misogyny, politics, or something else.

So there.

PS – I agree with the other reviewer who wrote that Amazon streaming has been intermittently unreliable. Recently it has had trouble in resuming from being paused. Admittedly, I pause & restart a lot, but it worked great for years until now.

UPDATE about Amazon streaming: Guess what? Problem may not be Amazon, but Chrome! I use Chrome as my browser. I began having so many problems, recently, with Amazon streaming (see PS above), that I decided to try, just on a whim, switching to Internet Explorer. Problem solved!!! Amazon streaming works great now, as long as I run it in IE.

I recently started watching Scandal on Netflix, and once I had caught up to the current season, I couldn’t get the first 4 episodes of Season 4 anywhere for free. While I felt a bit ridiculous paying $2 per episode, I bit the bullet and bought episodes 1-4. The streaming quality was good enough that I didn’t feel cheated watching the SD version (in my opinion paying more for the HD versions was a bit outrageous). I streamed them on the amazon instant video app, and it worked great. Now I’m all caught up and can continue watching for free On Demand!
