Sleepy Hollow: Season 1-4

DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:

Sleepy Hollow started out as a fantastic series that was quite ingenious in my opinion. To have Ichabod Crane (who is married to Katrina, a witch) suddenly wake up in our present day world in the fictional town of Sleepy Hollow and then team him up with police officer Abbie Mills is a great idea. Then to have him try to stop the Headless Horseman from getting his ‘head’ back is also cool. However, it is a complicated plot because of the many demons and other characters involved in this story. But it’s a lot of fun in the first season. However, when it returned for a second season, the writing wasn’t as good and the ratings really started slipping. By the last episode of the second season they did have a kind of ‘closure’ that could have ended the series. But since it eventually was renewed for a third season, it seemed to me that they were now struggling to try and renew their audience. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen and the ratings continued to dip. By the end of the third season, Abbie was actually killed off and it really should have ended there. However, FOX decided to try to ‘reboot’ the series and now it is set in Washington rather than in Sleepy Hollow and Ichabod is now teamed up with a new partner named Diana Thomas with a completely different plot. It didn’t work for the series and it was finally laid to rest after 12 episodes in the fourth season. Personally, I try to collect anything to do with the story of Sleepy Hollow so this series intrigued me. I do like the show’s originality but it really was difficult to keep up with the complicated plot and also to start believing that George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Ben Franklin all had some kind of dealings in the occult kind of made it a little hard to handle after a while. I was honestly glad to see the show finally end because it definitely outlived its welcome by the end of the second season. But since it’s ‘Sleepy Hollow’ I have to collect it. I think that being able to watch the episodes closer together now will make it a little easier for me to follow the plot. As a series, it was a great idea at first but it just fell rather flat after a while. That’s too bad, but at least they tried. If not for anything else, I would keep it just to continue to watch the first two seasons and just have the entire series if I wish to continue at any time.

Absolutely love this series and was sorry to see it be cancelled. The special effects were awesome, the story line very clever, and the wrapping of timelines between colonial times and now was always a treat. The various monsters and evil forces faced by the heroes each season can be a little intense for younger kids which is unfortunate because the storylines would have strong appeal to youngsters. The real highlight of the show which never got old for me was Crane’s amazement at modern times and social norms. Tom Mison is absolutely amazing in the leading role.

I absolutely love this series. History from an in person viewpoint throughout is something we don’t often get, even fictional it gives a unique perspective and makes you think. Comparisons through the character of then vs now w good characterization and acting. Plus spinning off of a great story into a whole new storyline. Irving would have been awed.
