T.J. Hooker the Complete series

DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:

*CONTENT ISSUES: now, this is a very safe show in terms of content…and especially compared to what is “acceptable” today. In terms of language it gets no worse than “D–n”. In terms of Innuendo…none at all. Sexually, nothing really to fear. But this takes place in a California-like area and you will go to the beach and poolsides. And there, you’ll find bikini clad ladies. You will also visit strip clubs…but the ladies don’t strip down past a bikini. In some episodes, you’ll find a woman in a bubble bath or milk bath, but, again, nothing is shown (and it makes sense in context). That’s pretty much as far as it gets, but if that bothers you, at least you know. Sometimes Hooker may spend time with a lady….but nothing is shown (not even the usual “take-off-each-other’s-clothes” kind of thing. In terms of violence, nothing terribly graphic. There are fights, there is blood, there is explosions. But this is standard 1980’s level of violence. Nothing gratuitous..

ABOUT THE SHOW:
For me, this is the quintessential William Shatner role. I enjoy him with this role much more than i did in his Star Trek one. There are many things I loved about the show:
1. Cast chemistry is phenomenal and watching each of them develop as officers is wonderful to see. That and the characters themselves are intriguing…both major and minor
2. The cases themselves are pretty interesting individually. Outside of the criminal vs cop formula, no case is truly the same as another. Each has enough variety to separate it from another.
3.Except for the occasional two-parter, it’s mostly episodic, but some bits of development do happen. But the episodic nature does allow this to be more bite-sized than say “Battlestar Galactica” and more friendly to “quick bites”.
4. The show often deals with real issues in law enforcement in a smart and intelligent way that can make you think.
5. The soundtrack is the best of 80’s cop shows…and much work obviously went into the arranging and recording of it. Really sets the mood.

– Hope this helps

Just finished watching the Complete Series. Seasons 1 was very short and introduced us to to Thomas Jefferson Hooker. The show features a senior officer who was a detective who traded in his gold shield for a uniform again. Sgt Hooker teaches at the Academy and is also an officer in the aptly name Academy Precinct. The show follows Hooker and a young officer who team up and patrol the streets to make it safe for everyone. The two play off each other well. Season 2 introduces us to another young officer Stacy Sheridan (the Captains daughter) played by Heather Locklear. I watched Heather in Melrose Place when it aired on TV when I was able to, and it was refreshing to see her again as a young officer. Officer Jim Corrigan who we learned transferred from San Francisco (played by James Darren) & Stacy Sheridan also played off each other well.

Hooker is the quintessential cop who wants to do good. He is about honor & integrity. Shatner said that he enjoyed the role because there was a lot of action and car chases and said he had a lot of fun doing it. As in many of his other roles he was surrounded by beautify women. In one episode he admits that he hasn’t been successful in marriage and yet is attempting to console someone in a marriage that wasn’t going well. It must be hard to be a police officer especially in this day & age because they appear to be targets too often.
