The Walking Dead Season 7

DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:

So ready for season 8. Just like everyone else. This is a great series, better than any series based on a comic book (with the possible exception of Arrow). I just watched this season again, and liked it much better than the first time. Ready for the resolution of the war with the Saviors, and for the Whisperer wars to begin.
One complaint I have heard expressed by Walking Dead fans has to do with how Shiva knew to attack only the Saviors. It has been expressed that this was not a believable plot element. It is actually one of the more believable plot elements if you understand the anatomy of predators. Considering the world in which she lives, along with her instinctive predilections and learned behaviors, she would naturally attack the Saviors. With her heightened sense of smell, the Saviors would smell like walkers to her. Remember, the Kingdom had been sending pork to the Sanctuary that had been fed on walker meat. Humans would probably never detect this, especially since the farm pigs had gone wild and the meat would taste ‘gamey’ to a human. That scent, though, would be secreted via the sweat of anyone who ate it. A tiger would detect that and probably, since she had learned to view walkers as a dangerous threat, seek to eliminate that threat. Simple. And that concludes the comic book zoology lesson for today.
Ready, set, let’s hurry up and go, already!

I am a long-time Walking Dead fan and purchase the episodes through Amazon to watch them as soon as possible. The last season or 2 has begun to take a downward turn, but the first part of season 7 is awful. Each episode seems desperate to take up time and throw in some zombie guts. The character development and strong storytelling from earlier seasons is entirely lacking. There are plenty of excellent actors in the cast, but horrible writing and direction. Sadly, my purchase of the season from the outset was a waste of money, and watching the episodes a waste of time. I used to love this show and wish it had gone out strong, but instead the producers seem intent on keeping it running forever, even if the quality takes a plunge.

Worth watching, but I think it is the weakest season so far. Negan gets pretty irritating with his overacting, arrogant, over-enthusiastic mannerisms. The zombie situations have some pretty cool effects and variations on zombie situations that are new and fresh, which makes the show more worthwhile. I sometimes get irritated with the fact the flesh eating mindless zombies are more likeable than some of the people who are still human, yet have lost their humanity, their souls. It becomes a world run by pure sociopaths, and that theme starts getting a little old. My hope is that the writers will get back to the main focus of an apocalyptic zombie world and surviving in it while retaining some humanity, rather than the main focus being the most undesirable human characteristics, with the zombies thrown in as kind of an outside prop.

As a side note, not really related, I have been reading the Walk Dead novel series of Jay Bonansinga. They have been fun to read (I’m on the 5th book), they are somewhat related to the TV series, but not at all close to the plot or script of the TV show. Some of the characters are there, but in a different light. Mostly the main characters are completely new. It provides a nice alternative to the TV series when the show is in between seasons.
