Vikings Season 2
DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:
As I continue to recycle through the first seasons of Vikings, I am continually entertained by this series. In season two, Ragnar consolidates his earldom, yet is caught between a rock and a hard place through the actions of King Horik, Jarl Borg, and his brother Rollo; as well as his own doing while in search of more male children.
The layers of Ragnars character become more defined, as the thinking man’s Viking, has more than rape, pillage and plunder in mind. Once again, Travis Fimmel does an excellent job in portraying one who, though steeped in the old ways, has much more in mind for the expansion of his people. Undeniably brutal at times, Vikings, with the curious and observant Ragnar as it’s focal point, commands that one think that the Norseman were more than raiders looking for easy pickings.
The further incorporation of the band Wardruna’s music creates an aura which captures a mood, or Hue of mind, that further enhances Vikings. Look for the subliminal, the little, things, that ensue on screen, not just the big stuff, and one can understand while through the first two seasons, Vikings, minute per minute, is the best value viewing on the small screen.

BONE JARRING, AXE SMASHING SHOW THAT IS ALSO FIERCELY INTELLIGENT, HIGHLY COMPLEX AND VERY WELL WRITTEN.
(I will not mention spoilers) Season two follows the rising stock of central character Ragnar. We already know from season one about the conflict of aspirations between Ragnar and his brother Rollo. We get right into it as Rollo’s alliance with Jarl Borg brings him into direct conflict with his brother. Ragnar also pursues his vision of exploiting new areas to the west in Britain, while convincing King Horik of the mutual benefits. Ragnar proves his intellect in pursuing multiple strategies of conquest, negotiation and alliance – rather than just bloodshed. Not everyone is on board though. However, as Ragnar spends extended time abroad, threats arise at home. Multiple fronts are opened and Ragnar’s clan is challenged for their very existence. Many characters that we absolutely love (like Lagertha, Athelstan, and Floki) have jaw dropping developments. We also find that Ragnar’s successes are beginning to draw concern and envy of those in power.
For those not familiar with this show yet, it is some of the best written and most dramatic offering on TV, full stop! Those who are not even into history or Vikings have been rabidly drawn into this show. It’s just that compelling. It is violent, so if that is not for you, it’s best to pass on it. However, History Channel has done an amazing job of weaving true events and both legendary and real characters into a masterpiece of historical fiction. This period of Viking history is pretty well represented in the show as well. The character development is some of the strongest you will see, even in cinema. In fact, the production values in general are equal to top notch cinema. The personalities they construct are absolutely fascinating. Lagertha is about as smart, and savage, and beautiful as any one human being can be. Almost every man who watches this show is in love with her! Floki is so eery and mysterious that he draws your attention every time he is on screen. Travis Fimmel as Ragnar Lothbrok creates such an extraordinary force of personality, I can’t even imagine anyone else in that role now. Religious mysticism, political intrigue and deep relationships are just as much of the tale as all the combat.
I like a lot of media, but I have a very high standard for what I consider great. Not everyone will enjoy TV with this much combat. But I can tell you this program has some of the most intricate and well crafted drama to go along with it. It has greatness!
– MyD — The Viewpoint
Having just finished seeing season three, ( no spoilers here- read on please) the show just keeps building momentum that is rarely seen on the small screen. I do hope some Emmy’s are earned as they are deserved for all three seasons. Taken as a whole seasons 1,2 and 3 are a true Epic, with this last season on par with some of Cecil B. De-mils finest work, Please start with season one and work your way up to the grand finale of season 3 . You will not be disappointed if you love twists and turns and dramatic surprise delivered by a great ensemble cast , great directing, painstakingly correct attention to detail and lots of history brought to life. I felt I was watching an Oscar winning film rather then just a television show.. If you love historical drama, this is a must see production, enjoy fellow fans , enjoy !
