Z Nation Season 2
DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:
When this show first started, I initially didn’t like it. I think a large part of this was my insistence on trying to compare it the The Walking Dead though. The whole first season had seemingly mixed intentions. Sometimes it felt like they were trying to be taken as a serious zombie apocalypse drama, and at other times it felt like they were going all out for the zombie apocalypse comedy genre. This mix made it hard to take the show completely seriously, although the first season did still have some episodes that were genuinely good. There were some that were genuinely bad as well, and a few obvious filler episodes. However, in the second season they seem to have latched onto the zombie comedy genre more completely.
Many fans try to compare this show to The Walking Dead, as I initially did. These shows can be enjoyed by the same fans, but for very different reasons. The Walking Dead is a serious drama that creates real attachment to characters. I haven’t found myself as attached to the characters in Z Nation, but I’ve found it to be very enjoyable nonetheless. This show excels in some ways that wouldn’t make sense in The Walking Dead universe. Some of the strengths of Z Nation are that they keep things fresh. We meet zombies that have gotten mutated in a nuclear reactor, zombie/plant hybrids, zombies that have been subjected to radioactive fallout, anthrax zombies, and numerous others. Whereas in The Walking Dead we have just walkers with little to no fundamental variation between them, we have different ‘breeds’ of zombies in Z Nation.
We see some very creative zombie kills in this series. Many of them depict scenarios that aren’t very realistic, even within the scope of the fictional universe. However, the comedic value of some of these kills compensate for the lack of realism. When you see a bunch of zombies getting run over by the worlds largest cheese wheel or getting decimated by the Liberty Bell flying off of a truck, you know that it couldn’t actually happen that way…but you’re willing to look past the realism and just enjoy it or what it is.
This show isn’t likely to ever have the type of cult following that The Walking Dead has, but it took me a while to realize that this isn’t really what the creators are going for. They’re piggy backing on the success of The Walking Dead in some respects, but the show is unique enough that this doesn’t really detract from the enjoyment of the show. I just read last night that Z Nation has been renewed for a third season, so I’m looking forward to seeing what happens as the show progresses.

I am giving this 5 stars because I finally get it. The story line is a little disjointed, but it’s not about being a soap opera.I think It’s about the writers and actors having a good time within the genre. A little more like slapstick, one liners, and B movies spoofing then a plot that thickens. However there is plot after a fashion. I’d like to see a little more of Citizen Z helping but I think that would require more planning for the producers because I think he just comes in and does his scenes in one day whereas the other actors have a more involved schedule. A little more cohesiveness to the plot would be nice, but not if it restricts the creative zombie mayhem. Love the big cheese roll gag in the latest episode. peas and carrots

Because if walking dead,I almost did not give it a chance. But, it is the opposite of what walking dead is. It doesn’t take itself seriously and no one is sitting around hand wringing about their humanity and worried about what their actions will lead to. They are not afraid to be goofy and can be funny, sad, and serious all at the same time. And they will kill anyone, out of the blue. I love this show and if I had to choose between the two, z nation would win.
