24: Live Another Day

DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:

Five star entertainment. These series of 24 serials are, in my opinion, some of Keifer’s best acting performance. Combined with high quality production sets, equipment, locales, and excellent supporting actors, this series is excellent. Another thing that makes these shows so good is that the entire set of episodes are pre-written, with a distinct beginning, distinct end, and a thoroughly fleshed out and refined middle that give the entire storyline a logical consistency that is very credible. This is unlike much episodic programming that is written week-by-week, where the writers don’t seem to know what’s going to happen next week, where the logic seems a little hard to grasp at times, and where many threads and clues are left unresolved or unexplored by the conclusion of its run of seasons.- anonj

You know what’s going to happen. You know Jack is going to bust chops, break legs, get thrown off cars, fall of buildings, lie to people, tell the truth to people, (where important), put himself in danger, put others in danger, pull head fakes, juke, jump of low bridges, pretend to be docile then smash someone in the head, shoot wildly with incredible accuracy, but.. hey. It’s Jack. It’s what he does. What is interesting and this is where credit goes to the writing team and the directorial team in creating what various television shows across the spectrum attempt, but rarely achieve. That would be, to put the protagonist and therefore the plot in such a state of peril, based on real world logic, (no magic rabbits here, for the most part…) that the entire plot dances like a grease bubble in the center of a very hot frying pan, oscillating perhaps a degree here, or there, but for the most part fulminating like liquid mercury on a hot plate. Hiss! Sizzle! Bubble! Which is not easy. You really have to be a strict disciplinarian, ‘no he cant’ say to himself, “she must have gone that way, because it was a red door,” or some other dubious form of plot device, in order to move things forward.
One other way this show, perhaps as effectively as any other show out there, uses modern media as a powerful agent in propelling narrative movement. That element keeps the the hot point front and center, as the viewer’s mind races to anticipate what could possibly be the next move Jack might make.
Have we seen it all before? Sure we have. Yet the new season employs the gears of drama as consummately as any single episode before it, so far, with familiar villains, deceitful faces and failed opportunities to help us remember that life itself is one big chance to get it right. I hope the show can keep it up.

Sorry to see this series finally come to an end. The message was clear, however: our government does not support those who sacrifice their all to defend and protect it from those who would destroy it. Our leaders have become soft, afraid to stand for what is right and good, too afraid they might be considered politically incorrect. That Jack Bauer was consistently persecuted by those in our government that touted themselves “servants of the people”, and that he was pursued and harassed by Washington even as he was putting his life on the line shows the shortsightedness of those who run our country. 24: Live Another Day only serves to make this flaw in our leadership glaringly apparent. I salute the producers for not being afraid to portray so many of our leaders as “traitors” to the very ones who give their all for their country. Our soldiers come home from a bloody war and find themselves without jobs, decent housing, or medical treatment. Jack is treated the same way so many of our brave men and women are treated who come back from combat: with disdain and indifference. Thanks to the brilliant work of those who created this most eye-opening thriller. Hopefully someday our leaders will wake up and begin to take care of those who have given all to take care of them.
