A Cinderella Story: Christmas Wish

DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:

A Cinderella Story: Christmas Wish is a budget movie, not sure if it was an originally made for TV one, but at times if feels like one (especially when the stepmother and stepdaughters are on screen), but it’s better quality than most TV movies. If they’d just got a better song writer to write the songs. It’s not a musical, character speak to each other, but there’s a few scenes where Kat (the Cinderella type character) and sometimes other rehearse and sings a few, she (Laura Marano) can sing, but the songs aren’t quite big screen quality. The step mother and daughter never seemed real. They’ve improved the Kat character from the airheadness of the original Cinderella, and changed the storyline a fair bit. Not sure why they didn’t decide to make the step mother and ugly stepsisters to be more modern with their tormenting and bullying of Kat, and more realistic. I also wondered why Kat’s dead got into a relationship with the stepmother while he was alive, she doesn’t seem to have anything appealing about her at all.

A Cinderella Story: Christmas Wish isn’t just the Cinderella story with different occupations and a more modern story. In fact some things from the original tale are just nodded at, like she doesn’t lose a shoe and the prince (a billionaire’s famous rich kid in this one) does’t carry it around trying to work out the owner was. This one she just leaves behind a notebook which plays no further part in the movie. Likewise for a while she doesn’t take off her elf hat, wig and ears, giving homage to not being recognised when dressed up, but the rich kid obviously knows what she looks like.

It’s not a bad movie at all. I would have liked them to have had a more elaborate Christmas Ball thing, the one they have is pretty lame. I do fear for the disabled dog’s welfare though when the stepmother and her daughters get home after the ball though.

Most budget DVDs also have no special features but the Region 4 version comes with behind the scenes making of ones, where the actors also talk to the camera and stuff.
