Arrow: Season 4 [Blu-ray]

DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:

The first two seasons of Arrow are tightly plotted, well planned character studies of the transformation and redemption of a narcissistic playboy into an avenging angel, and then the transformation and redemption of that avenging force into a good man. The third season struggles a bit with what to do with this now thoroughly developed character, but it’s still good.

Something bad happened this year.

As the shared universe this show started expands, it seems the best ideas have left it to be on the newer shows, leaving Arrow to getting rid of characters the show really needs for balance, and shoehorning in a romance that doesn’t seem to suit the characters, and has forced some really questionable decisions by the writing staff to desperately try to make something that shouldn’t be there at all work. Also, as a personal gripe, when they say they’re about to run a facial recognition search, it shouldn’t be three key clicks and a second and a half till “got it” is exclaimed. That’s just insulting my intelligence. But for all the missteps, at its core this is a very likable, versatile show. I want to enjoy it. Please win me back.-Raivus

The show was very strong for the first three seasons. Plots and characters taken in interesting directions. But in season 4 the show flounders. The storylines are rushed to try and hide all the holes in them. There are some good episodes, but some of the characters are becoming silly and irritating. Like Felicity and her mother. In fact the show feels like a soap opera now. The fight scenes have become over stylized and ridiculous, whereas in earlier seasons they had more realism. The actors speak quickly to mask the bad dialogue. Nothing of substance to connect with in the show.- azfreediver

This is by no means Emmy winning material. But I love all the superheroes. The dialogue, costumes, and fight scenes are awesome. The storylines are like a bad soap opera. The imagination that goes into these character (especially the flash) is fantastic. Occasionally they hit on an interesting (could it be true) storyline. Time travel, magic, ordinary debutant becomes a mercenary and excellent sword wielding marshal artist. Kitchey entertaining. Perfect thing to stream while unwinding after work. Also I love John Barrowman no matter what he’s in. Captain Jack anyone!- Kelly Pritchett
