Blue Bloods Season 8

DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:

There isn’t another series on television that takes such an honest look at the law enforcement and legal challenges our society faces with as balanced an approach. It leans neither left or right, but attempts to objectively tackle issues that currently divide many in our country. The writers find common ground and OBJECTIVELY examine multiple sides of an issue. The stories portray difficult situations with compassion and ultimately offer legitimate hope. Add to this a superb cast and CBS offers a series I look forward to viewing each week. “Blue Bloods” and “This Is Us” are the only two series I actually purchase so I don’t ever miss an episode … though if you’re willing to wait until post season, Blue Bloods is offered to Amazon Prime subscribers free of charge. That means if you haven’t been aware of this great series, you can binge watch the first 7 seasons free!

Blue Bloods is one of the only dramatic prime time series actually shot on location on the streets of New York City. Because of production costs and the challenge every long-running series faces with cast salaries running higher each season, I fear this great series my be into it’s final season. I hope that isn’t the case, because no other series offers what Blue Bloods gives us each week with such great production value and such solid talent from the writers and actors. It’s a show that demonstrates integrity is not dead. That right and wrong are real issues, but not black and white issues. That there is plenty of room for compassion and forward thinking regarding issues of morality and protecting society … in fact they are essential.

I’ve worked in the television industry my entire career and most people don’t realize how hard these actors work to sustain a one-hour drama each week for 8 seasons. Tom Selleck, what you and your fellow cast members, and the writers, are contributing is a gift. I hope you know how much so many of us appreciate the way Blue Bloods helps us understand multiple sides of difficult issues and helps bring together people of diverse backgrounds and idealologies … especially at a time when the media and politicians can’t seem to stop attempting to divide us. As a people we all have so much more in common than we have differences. Blue Bloods does a spectular job of honoring and respecting different points of view while simultaneously championing the need for integrity and true justice in our modern American society. Best of all, it is great storytelling and there isn’t a better crime & law enforcement drama on television today than Blue Bloods. Tom and Donny and Bridget and Will, please give us at least one more season! Or better yet, make it 10 total!!! Because when you leave there will be a void that can not be filled. Yours is truly a synergestic effort from cast and crew and writers. You have accomplished what few series have ever been able to do: tell great stories that help change the lives of those who watch for the better and help us have a greater understanding and empathy for our neighbors in this increasingly diverse melting pot we call the UNITED States of America. I believe you are making a far greater difference than you realize!

ADDENDUM:

Just read all the one-star reviews of Season 8 and those who expressed concerns have a valid point. Amy Carlson’s departure WAS poorly handled … regardless of how avant-garde the producers would like us to think they were being. The first few episodes of Season 8 got off to a rocky start. Blue Bloods temporarily lost it’s footing, it’s foundation, and I feared the writing had deteriorated irreparably. But Season 8 eventually returned to the great writing the series is known for and I hope there will be at least a couple more seasons of this great series. Linda’s presence is greatly missed, but the writers are beginning to deal with her absence better than they did at the start of the season (Season 8, Episode 1 was abysmal). I’m glad I stuck with the show through those first rocky episodes of Season 8. The rest of the cast deserve my loyalty as they have provided 8 great seasons of an irreplaceable television drama that makes an actual difference. Should the producers give us some on-screen closure for Linda’s character? Absolutely! How they handled the storyline was blatantly cold-hearted indifference to their loyal fan base … and it incensed a lot of viewers, including me. But it’s not too late for the show to provide that closure (which would be a great opportunity for the writers to provide some unforgettable poignant moments with Danny Reagan and his boys and their mother) and Linda Carlson has publicly said she is open to doing it.

No spoilers here. I just received the set and binge watched it. Like a fine single-malt, Blue Bloods improves with age.
Those seeking fireworks and instant gratification might dislike the slower pacing, but mature viewers familiar with “the job” and the locale will give two thumbs up. It’s refreshing to see the kids growing up, becoming young adults, dealing with life’s challenges and moving on. Sometimes life isn’t fair and you have to deal with it. But family comes first and faith both comforts and strengthens.

Sunday dinners are still the best.

Dance as if no one were watching
Sing as if no one were listening
And Live every day
As if it were your last.

The writing is starting to falter. The cliché’s are nearly unending. Both thin and overweight characters are overacting to make up for the dwindling credibility in the script. Selleck and Jbara are starting to look like beached whales in suits. Even Clohessy, my favorite, is coming off strained. Who’s idea was it to cast Lorraine Bracco as a mayor? Even if she lost 40 lbs. I couldn’t bear her lousy acting. If I produced this show I’d require everyone to cut calories and start jogging — including the writers to snap them out of stupor.
