Claws Season 1
DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:
“Claws” came to my attention courtesy of an article in The New Yorker, I believe. It’s the kind of ghetto fabulous show that I normally wouldn’t bother with. But the reviews have been so favorable that I had to check it out — and, boy, am I glad I did! The show is a riot. Think “Sex and the City” without the unrealistically lavish lifestyles and without the whitebread leading ladies, throw in a helping of hair extensions, a lot of girl power, and you have “Claws.” I’ve been a fan of Niecy Nash since her days on “Reno 911.” I’m pleased to see she hasn’t lost any of her sass. When she’s on camera, she rules.

I started watching this show because there wasn’t anything else on – I have it through my SlingTV subscription but I had to buy the last episode because there were technical difficulties and I couldn’t wait any longer for it to be resolved. I was hooked on this show and I honestly thought I wouldn’t like it. It’s nothing like I expected. I loved the different characters, they were all so different, the story was NOTHING like I thought it was going to be – great plot twists, some weird, random ones, but I loved it. It’s a unique show that exceeded my expectations. It does contain violence and brief nudity (I think you only see a man’s butt a few times and there’s a few scenes that take place in the strip club, so everyone gets to see a little bit of a$$), so it’s not for children. But I thought this show would be about a nail salon and I thought ‘Boring. No thanks’, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. I love the outfits they wear (it fits perfectly with the characters) and even though it was filmed in New Orleans, it looks like Florida. Great costume designer, great filming and great character development.

This is a really good series. However I depend on closed captioning, and as is so often the case, the morons who do the closed captioning have screwed it up. In many scenes, there is rock music in the background, playing so faintly that I doubt if somebody with perfect hearing could make out the lyrics. But the closed-captioning morons include every word of the lyrics, all mixed up with the real dialogue. It is extremely confusing.
