Courageous
DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:
I give “Courageous” a 4 star because it is one of the best Christian movies we’ve seen so far. “Courageous” challenges men to be faithful fathers, but the Biblical message is packed into an exciting, thoughtful and humorous story. Another “cop story” with plenty of action to satisfy the boys and men. But it also includes the heart-strings of the struggle of a strongly Christian Latino family trying to make a living. It includes the Christ-centered Black family who strive to keep their lives in line with God’s ways. The “hero” of the movie is actually a white man, Adam Mitchell, who seems to keep his faith in his back pocket (like a handkerchief) for when he needs it. He loves his wife, but is distant from his children. His young daughter’s death becomes his wake-up call. But even so, to us it seemed that Javier Martinez (the Latino day worker) and Nathan Hayes (the associated Black officer) aren’t given their due. They’ve been living the life, trying to be faithful and grow, and Adam — bumbling, stumbling, and very thick-headed white officer, gets the front and center attention and respect of the movie. That’s out of balance, because the Body of Christ should not have ethnic distinctions. The music is ear-splitting and obnoxious too. One further thing: Its essential that a man be a loving, attentive father who directs his children and family; but the movie did not emphasize Ephesians 5: Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loves the church. If a man is an attentive father, but doesn’t cherish his wife and minister to her, his work will deeply lack what marriage and family is all about. It starts with Christ, and then goes to husband and wife…then the children. That’s God’s order; and Courageous didn’t quite hit God’s mark. Its a very good movie, but the Truth must be applied so it won’t be lost.-David Lee
My husband and I have just about given up Hollywood entertainment. So we are very appreciative of such beautifully-done Christian-themed movies such as this one about the enormous importance of fathers in our lives. I am so impressed with the work of such filmmakers as the Kendall brothers. Such filmmakers have brought Christian-themed stories to the next level. This movie offers a much-needed look at the essential nature of good fathering for the good of society, an issue that is very universal to humanity. Good job. To the filmmakers of these kinds of movies out there: we need you. God bless and keep up the good work.-NadieMax
I was hesitant to watch this film and really expected it to be rather cheesy and of low production value. The cover made me expect another Hallmark-type slow paced piece pretending to have some (lame) police action.
I was wrong. Unlike Fireproof, which I feel meant well, but failed at reaching secular audiences, Courageous quickly kicks off at a faster pace and is heavy-duty enough to capture the audience and grip them.
It has genuine, tear-jerking drama as well as humor. Most of all it has a powerful message that is desperately needed today.
It has genuine, relatable characters. The acting is great and the cinematography is well done. This is a real movie and not some low budget looking, poorly acted, light-hearted, so-called Christian family flick.-Hawk911
