Girls Trip
DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:
Loved, loved, loved this movie. Why? Writing and acting was superb; the women remained the main characters throughout with strong male supporting actors. Though truly all women leads are perfect for their role, Tiffany Haddish stretched humor from the female gaze to new heights. Scene after scene she consistently surprised us with a comedic truth resulting in a long belly laugh. The script and actresses weren’t afraid to go where most comedy for women would never dare go. Then, as sappy as cliches can get, Regina Halls’ final and poignant speech did indeed challenge me to examine my own level of personal authenticity. I’ve got some work to do. Loved the film; thanks to all, and it didn’t hurt to have Mike,Lorenz and Kofi around for a good dose of eye-candy. (No disrespect to the fact that their acting was very good too.) 😉 Turn this into an episodic and keep all the actors as is. Best of luck, Annie-Ann Dorgan
I loved this movie for so many reasons. First, let me say that there is one scene that is the funniest I’ve seen in many, many years. I won’t forget it any time soon. I’m still laughing. I won’t spoil it even by giving you a clue. The movie is hilarious, irreverent and uplifting and at the same time, soulful and touching. The plot moves at a fast clip and never bores. There are a few scenes I could have done without, but the way this movie wraps up is so great that I have to forgive it all. Black culture is definitely something to which other people rarely get included- which I find so unfortunate- for myself! They seem to have more fun and togetherness than other people. I’ve often wished I could be a part of it- this movie makes me feel even more so. The four actresses who make up the Flossy Possy were exquisite- Tiffany Haddish, Regina Hall, Queen Latifah (who just gets more beautiful with age) and Jada Pinkett Smith. Kate Walsh was also great in her supporting role. I always like seeing her. I rarely give 5 stars to a comedy, but this one really deserves it.- Susan
This is one of those movies that you can look back on later and say that it made someone a star. Tiffany Haddish is absolutely hilarious. It’s been a while since a new star appeared…but here she is. I also loved seeing Jada Pinkett Smith, Queen Latifah, and Regina Hall together…they make a great team. Hoping for a sequel with them all together. If you like Tyler Perry movies, then you will like Girls Trip because it has that same heart. It’s about friendship and love and sticking together. The plot is predictable if you enjoy this genre of comedies…there are struggles, at one point the friends fight, secrets come out, then friendship prevails. I still enjoy the ride though. Girls Trip comes after several other female-centered comedies that veer into raunch territory; it has its cringe-worthy moments and language at times that would make a sailor blush. But when I think about it, that’s kind of return to the comedies of the early ’80s that used bad language and mature themes. I don’t think everything in life has to be prudish. Not every movie has to be family-friendly. Latifah is wonderful as always…she brings the heart. I am stunned at how great a comedian Jada is. She should do more comedy…she is a great physical comedian. Regina Hall is so classy in this and plays it straight for the most part letting the other ladies have the best lines. Together they are such a great team. Whenever this movie is on TV, I would sit and watch it. It’s worth seeing at least once just for Tiffany Haddish’s big debut alone.- Kevin DuJan
