House of Cards Season 5

DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:

I am a huge fan of House of Cards. The previous four seasons were–generally–masterful. About half way through season five however, I became worried: the Tom Yates character was boring, and brought the action to a halt; resolutions happened too conveniently–such as information on Congressman Romeros’ rape being brought to Frank Underwood, and the Secretary of State being implausibly sidelined.

Overall, this season almost veered into farce; which would have been terrible, since House of Cards, like all the greatest fiction, is most compelling when it remains this side of plausible.

Almost–almost veered into farce. By the last two episodes however, I am glad to say that I got my old, smart, compelling House of Cards back! By the last two episodes there were incredible ‘oh-no-they-didn’t’ moments involving the main characters–not just expendable, temporary characters. Both Frank and Claire are back in the unbelievable game of chess to secure both the presidency and even greater power. And, most delicious of all, the final episode did indeed cause me to wait, with baited breath, for season 6.

The writers are geniuses. I cannot wait for Season 6, 2018. Recommended. 🙂
