Lost Girl Season 5-6

DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:

In Season 5, Hannah (Lena Dunham) puts her writing ambitions aside to work alongside boyfriend Fran. Meanwhile, Marnie (Allison Williams) needs space–after her wedding; Jessa pursues a career as a therapist; and Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet) thrives in Japan.

Firs off LOVE “Girls,” a lot, HOWEVER — I have paid enough over the years and barely used Amazon Prime and don’t appreciate the tease method of showing you a season or more of a show and then saying the only way you can get to the next or last season is by subscribing to HBO. Or, sometimes buy it. Obnoxious!!!! I’ve had enough of there nothing much at all you can see when traveling overseas and the “included in Prime” when you CAN access their offerings and allowing one (or more) seasons and then cutting you off. Same with “The Comeback.” Hello Netflix. (This is not the only series they’ve done that with.)

Although I do keep watching this show, this season relies especially on dramatics and nastiness between the characters for its tension and effects. Some of the whimsy and psychological interest is lost in all the shouting. Hannah as a character seems to devolve further into shows of narcissism–often to an unrealistic degree–and much of the fun of watching a character with intelligence and ambition, growing through young adulthood, is gone. Still, there’s talent here, and some substance, and I’ll keep watching

Wonderful! Another well-written, whimsical, weird and utterly delightful season. The characters continue to develop in some interesting and unpredictable ways, and the show fills a much-needed niche that shows young urban girls in all their complexity, conflicts, playfulness, and ambivalence about growing up emotionally, professionally, and relationally. Definite binge watch treat!
