Major Crimes Season 5

DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:

Love Major Crimes. It’s a crime show that truly focuses on the crime, but also has fun, real storylines going on behind the scenes. The entire cast is great (I’d name favorites, but they’re all awesome), and Mary McDonnell does an excellent job leading the cast as always. She’s the epitome of tough but fair leader. The cases keep me guessing, and rarely do I figure it out early on. I only gave this season 4 stars because compared to previous seasons, there’s something lacking in the scripts. The acting is always great, but that exciting spark is gone. I’m almost aware that I’m watching a TV show, whereas in previous seasons I never felt that. Compared to other TV shows, I wouldn’t even call it a slump; just noticeable. It is still the BEST crime show out there in my opinion, and I’m happy to hear it’s getting a sixth season! Here’s to hoping there’s quite a few more.- MJ

Many of the characters are “old friends,” from “The Closer” show. The story lines are clever and relevant to today, the dialogue is good. Glitzy LA looks “real” to me, though what-do-I-know-not-much. There is plenty of action but not icky, gratuitous violence. There are on-going story lines about characters (examples: Julio wants to be a foster parent; Tao has a tv consulting deal) which are interesting to me. I have no idea if they are off-putting to a new viewer. If you keep watching you’ll easily “get” them.
In “The Closer,” nobody liked Captain Sharon Raydor, and she is the lead in “Major Crimes.” It took a while for me to warm up to her. The scenes with her adopted son Rusty went down better in past Seasons. Unfortunately, Rusty is irritating, even for a teenager. Scenes with him seem forced this Season. Maybe they should kill him off? Just asking.- Catherine Fellows

at this point, I hope this series continues until Provenza really does retire! Been watching this ensemble of actors since the very first episode of
The Closer.. the writing is terrific, the acting terrific and the stories/crimes never get boring… and I really love the subtle way we catch glimpses of the personal side of the characters, as well as the crafty way the writers are able to keep the Rusty character relevant. All in all this is a series worth watching. There have been a few skip worthy episodes (Dick Tracy anyone?) but the good far exceeds the bad.-Vtyaker
