New Amsterdam Season 1

DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:

When I first heard this show was coming out, I was a bit dubious. Exactly HOW many medical dramas are the Powers That Be thinking the public wants to watch? I already watch Chicago Med and The Resident, for heaven’s sake!

Still, I decided to give it a try. While some of the characters seem a bit familiar (except for being gay, New Amsterdam’s psychiatrist Iggy Frome is literally a carbon copy of Chicago Med’s Dr. Charles) I still greatly enjoy the strong acting and ripped-from-the-headlines stories. Like Chicago Med, New Amsterdam likes to focus on the current hot button issues, such as healthcare for undocumented immigrants, hospitals putting cost over care, etc.

Unlike other medical dramas, however, this one has a main character fighting his own medical crisis – based on the real-life doctor whose memoir inspired this show.

I liked the characters as well as the actors that play them. While there was nothing particularly new or amazing I appreciated that everyone wasn’t sleeping with everyone else and the staff seemed to get along most of the time. It’s a show I can watch where I want to root for the people represented.- Wallfleur

Ok. this is not Code black, the good doctor, or the Resident. Yes. Having a hospital like this, a medical director and a support system like that is a fantasy. But wouldn’t it be nice if there is such? I mean, don’t you want all doctors care about the patients first? isn’t that what doctors are supposed to do, or they started that way, but became worn out due to red tape of insurances, and other mishaps.

So its nice to see a person who wants to do good. And its entertaining and refreshing to see how one go outside the box, and change the way it works. I like this show, because its entertaining and makes people feel good and hopeful.

Of course, there are great serious and intense medical dramas, and I like them too, but them being great, does not make this less excellent.- T. Lim
