Silicon Valley Season 3
DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:
How can one of the best series ever produced for PBS be cancelled? Whoever makes these decisions removes a chance to see the truth in human relationships not only in the time of war but now, when we need them most. You have done the public a disservice by depriving them of more honesty and possibility of sharing the emotions of those who suffer and yet move forward in dark times. This is one of the best series produced, not about wealthy and potentially influential folk who deem it unnecessary to act for the best in us, but to sit in grand homes and judgement of
those who did not win the lottery at birth.

I’ve just watched the last episode of Season 2, and can’t believe ITV would leave viewers hanging by cancelling the program without finishing the story. This seriously affects the satisfaction of the viewer and undermines their confidence in starting to view any new program if the risk is that the story isn’t brought to its logical conclusion. Would you buy a book if you knew the last chapter was missing? At the very least, ITV should do Season 3 and tie out all the storylines.

Once in a great while, a show comes along that charms and warms my heart, making the TV watching experience a vibrant, lovely, and heart-warming one. Home Fires is that and I discovered it in the Summer of 2016. Within 10 minutes of watching the first episode of season 1, I fell in love with the characters and their English countryside, immediately knowing I had discovered a gem of a show. Upon finishing season 1, I eagerly waited a year until Amazon made this second season available on Prime Video. Revisiting the ladies of Great Paxford this second season, I was charmed all over again. I adore this show very much and was utterly gutted to hear that the British powers-that-be, decided not to renew it for any further seasons beyond season 2. This is a disappointment because I’ve come to love the stories of the ladies and the countryside so much.
With a surprise return of a WI troublemaker, all the ladies are back, still just as flawed but charming as they were in season 1. A couple more husbands have gone off to fight in the war. As the wives grapple with the thought of if they’ll ever see their loves again, a trove of handsome, strapping, and brave men from various divisions of domestic and international armies, come to Great Paxford to help with the war effort on the home front.
In season 2, each woman has grown up a bit more. Individually and collectively, they are stronger, bolder, and more audacious, all while still having grace and poise, without much more than two strands of hair out of place in their neatly coiffed heads. As we saw in season 1, the women display courage at a time of raging war – a war they have no control over. Tensions and disagreements arise, but this time around, they are tensions from external forces that not only threatens their well-being and livelihood, but also the foundation of what some of them once knew. With aplomb and hardened nerve, the women tackle many things that both literally and figuratively fall into their homes and their countryside.
I am being intentionally vague in not naming which woman goes through what this season, so as not to give away any spoilers. Each new discovery and revelation seen on screen is so much more fulfilling and worthwhile when seen without foreknowledge. It was also wonderful to see that everything that I loved about season 1, was duplicated in season 2. The charming storytelling, the convincing acting, the breathtaking cinematography, and the lovely soundtrack. One scene in the fifth episode comes to mind, where all the women and the townsfolk join in on a farm to harvest corn. In poetic slow-motion, the camera pans and zooms, revealing faces and hands that are determinedly focused on the task of helping out a friend and fellow WI member. This scene is enveloped by provincial charm and told while sweet, melodic voices vocalize in the background, as if the heavens had opened up, releasing angels onto the Great Paxford countryside. As with a handful other scenes, I teared up while watching this one in particular.
Without a third season in the horizon, I am saddened that I won’t find out if the hearts of several of the women will heal; if one woman will forgive and embrace the joys of surprised motherhood; if one woman, after finding courage to make a bold decision, will see if her one chance at genuine love and happiness, has been irreparably thwarted by her rotten husband; if one woman will come to realize that marriage is not a cloak that will suddenly wash away who her heart really wants; if several of the women will find redemption and peace in the internal and external battles that they are fighting. I am beside myself knowing that I and many others who adore this show, will not get to see any of these resolutions on screen. Particularly since the season ends on such a good cliffhanger. Grrrr.
Offering some consolation, I have read that the creator and writer of the series, Simon Block, will be publishing the show in book form, picking up the stories of the women where season 2’s cliffhanger leaves off. Being that it will be a a British publication, it is not slated to be released until Summer of 2018 in the US. Nonetheless, I plan to purchase a copy in order to see where the ladies and the rest of the townsfolk of Great Paxford are headed. Until then, I will re-watch seasons 1 and 2 with great delight..
