The Affair Season 3

DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:

The characters are becoming very unlikable. The initial draw of the first season is gone. The mystery of the guard following him seemed off and transparent. I like Cole and Alison but Noah is becoming very painful to watch as he is such a mess and not a nice person. I have no sympathy for him as he has proven to make terrible decisions and act like a jerk. Helen is also so unlikable at this point, she is irritating. I’m probably done after this. Don’t see how season 4 could be an improvement, the story line has been exhausted.

One of the best series ever on TV and far surpasses most movies. Unlike many other viewers from what I’ve read/heard, I liked what they did with the mysterious, deep, dark twists in the third season and can hardly wait for the fourth. I think this series — its writing, direction, and acting — has been way too overlooked by the Emmys. Probably the strongest, best, most vivid character portrayals I’ve seen on a TV series. Switching viewpoints midway in each episode and even making different things happen to show the individuals’ different perceptions of what happens is artful and fascinating. I feel that I actually know the characters as real people, especially the lead male character.. The plot is also interesting and the story meaningful as well as entertaining. A good one for binge watching. The overly simplistic, sex-related title doesn’t do the series justice and may be rather misleading, though I could do without some of the sometimes longish, often even rather boring possible “soft porn” that to me doesn’t add to the story.

SPOILERS
I just finished watching season 3. I’m not exactly sure what I just watched. In the 1st season the “perspectives” made sense. They showed what each person dealt with, and the consequences of an affair. They tied in, and were relevant. Season 2, while going a little south on the theme, at least held onto the plot. Season 3, the perspectives were no longer that. They turned them into just different story lines, that did not intersect in anyway shape or form. The only one time they made sense was with Helen, and Noah, because they actually had a story line. Speaking of that, Noah’s psychosis became the real theme of this season, which was a result of the assisted suicide of his own mother. “The Affair”, and all affairs after that forgotten in the wind. The title of the season should have been changed, It should have been “Noah’s Breakdown”…or just simply….”Breakdown”. Also can I point out a huge pet peeve during this season. Is it just me, or are Helen and Alison’s top upper lips jetting out FAR too much. Alison kind of has that anatomy, possible fillers used, but Helen, it’s almost as if she was purposely making a weird face the entire season. It was there in other seasons, but very pronounced in season 3. I could barely concentrate on the confusing story line because of it.
