The Americans Season 5

DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:

I was raised by Bolsheviks – family shot, wounded, jailed during rebellions against Czar. Captivated by this series. The entire cast is exceptional, the actors superb. Satisfying to see periods of remembered history so well depicted from a Soviet point of view. An aspect I question is the lack of early indoctrination of Paige (and Henry), as we were conditioned even as very young children to think of things from an alternative Russian perspective… The other puzzle is the toleration of risk and lack of immediate elimination of threat from Pastor Tim and wife, but it creates continued story-tension and shows how extreme left and right join hands. Streaming television is where all the creativity is nowadays. Under intense flu binged previous seasons. Am now suffering severe withdrawal, and, like others, happy about the continuation of Nina (what acting!). Episodes can’t be created fast enough to slake this thirst! Now, for soundtrack, how about “Dominion/Mother Russia” by Sisters of Mercy, off their “Floodland” release.

I think that this is the best show on TV (I watch it on Amazon). As a student of Cold War history and as someone who grew up in the midst of the Cold War, these writers are absolutely on point. I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again: the idea to use Russian speaking actors to speak their lines in Russian have added so much more to the quality of this show. I can’t wait until each episode is available for streaming.

I typically never buy DVDs as my priorities on investing my money is different… but this one I want 🙂 I grew up in USSR and this reminded me of a lot of stuff. made me cry and laugh… and I usually don’t get impacted by movies or tv shows. this one is a special one. Acting is superb! I am glad they hired real Russian speaking/origin actors ( I bet it was easier in NY ) as I hate how many tv shows and movies have non-russian speakers play Russians and try to speak Russian… it’s just sounds so ugly 🙂 there are so many Russian speaking folks in USA and yes actors too.. enough to cover small and big roles. But main characters I don’t mind them, they did a GREAT job, fell in love with them. Of course, there are a few flaws in the story and history they showed BUT hey, no TV show/movie is perfect. But this one is close to perfect so I.ll take it gladly! Well done!
