THE SPOILS OF BABYLON is one of the funniest parodies I have seen in some time.

I had never even heard of the half-hour, six-episode series until I received a review copy of the DVD in the mail the other day. Apparently it had aired over a cable network (that I never watch) in 2014.

The mock mini-series, spoofing shows like THE THORN BIRDS and THE WINDS OF WAR, is hosted by a bearded Will Ferrell (channeling Orson Welles). He plays legendary author Eric Jonrosh, the self-proclaimed undisputed master of dramatic fiction.

Jonrosh introduces the audience to his brilliant adaptation to his best-selling novel, a sweeping chronicle of the provocative and captivating exploits of the Morehouse family, who made their fortune in the Texas oil fields and whose influence now extends to powerful boardrooms in New York City.

Aside from Ferrell, the marvelously funny cast includes Kristen Wiig, Toby Maguire, Tim Robbins, Jessica Alba, Val Kilmer, David Spade, Michael Sheen, Molly Shannon, Haley Joel Osment and Carey Mulligan…voicing a mannequin.

If you enjoyed movies like AIRPORT or television series like GALAVANT, then THE SPOILS OF BABYLON is for you. Indeed, it is LOL!
