The X-Files Season 11

DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:

Let’s be honest: the first revival season sucked (except for the were-monster!) and it put too many people off. It was just one disappointment too many for purists and casual fans, and that’s a real shame.

There are also some problems with this season, particularly the infamously gross and tone-deaf William-related retcon. But overall, this season’s lows aren’t nearly as low, and the highs are far more sustained. Even the more forgettable episodes still feel like classic X-Files, which couldn’t be said of season 10 or the second feature film.

But, here’s what’s really important: Some of these episodes rank right up there with the all-time best.

The season premiere isn’t good by any means, but it does more or less right the boat after season ten.

This is based only on the first episode of S11.
– For those new to it, it’s actually enjoyable not knowing anything about the history. The acting, the suspense: everything is ripe for getting to know the show, and it feels like a movie within just one nights’ show. It cannot possibly satisfy the blockbuster immensity of, say, the 1998 movie, but it does pretty darn well.
– For X-files fans, it is very nicely done: clean and crisp and we get to enjoy seeing our heroes again, this time in a nice twist, but with the two of them interacting a lot more than the dismal Season10.
– For TV Fans: the acting is very solid among the main characters, the action is solid without trying to be a James Bond film, and the humanity and drama is there as well – in just one 40 minute (?) show

I have been a follower of the X file series since day one and have the entire collection in Blu Ray. While it is true X Files has always pushed the envelope when it came to graphic violence and plentiful gore, this new season has clearly out done itself in those areas. Unless you are a fan of slasher or blood drenched type TV series or films, which I am not, prepare to be grossed out with several of the episodes in this series. You will see everything here from cannibalism, impalement, decapitation, vivisection, exploding bodies spraying gore all over walls, and just about anything else violent and gory you can imagine – and NOTHING is left to the imagination here at all! The only redeeming feature in the entire collection is the single episode titled “Rm9sbG93ZXJz”, which is truly great and is gore free. As a side note Episode #1, which is a continuation from the 10th season cliff hanger, is Chris Carter at his “Indian giver” worst, and you will be greatly disappointed with it, as I was. If this is going to be the level of violence and gore we should expect in future seasons I will NOT be buying them. Personal note to Chris Carter: It is OK to leave some things to the imagination, and you really DON’T have to show it all. It should be about the stories and not the violence or gore! This series also made me think that perhaps it’s time to bring back some degree of censorship to the film and TV industry.
