This show is so beautifully written you hear words coming out of a character’s mouth that can help you find meaning in your own life. The music is fantastic; another reason to watch. The family is not perfect but it is a great family. Real life families are not perfect. There have been some series that I did not discover right away but I am glad to say that I have been with This Is Us from the first episode. I love all of the characters. I love the show. It’s wonderful. It’s touching. I think it’s great that Jack and Rebecca made attempts to help Randall connect with other African Americans and tried to understand how it is different.

If you’re considering this dvd set, you know how great the show is, so I will not be rating the show itself. It’s an incredible drama with top-notch acting and it deserves every accolade it gets. I will be rating the dvd set itself. The 5 discs come in the book style dvd case that is as thick as a single disc dvd. As one whose storage space is rapidly dwindling, I appreciate this. The episode listing is also included in the sleeve.

Though the set includes all 18 episodes of the first season, it is pretty lacking in extra features and this is the only reason it gets 4 stars. The only special features included are the “Aftershow” vignettes that are available on the website and On Demand. Though it is nice to see the cast talking about the episode with each other or with some of the writers, I really wanted something more with the dvd set. I could have used more behind the scenes, commentary, more interviews, etc. I know that you get that minimally with the Aftershow clips, but I love this show. I wanted more. Most of the vignettes are under 10 minutes long (except for the final one). It would scratch the bonus features itch minimally if they were new material. Having seen all of it already, I was a bit disappointed.

The writing for this new TV series is superb and the acting is first rate. This is an emotional drama which at times will leave you in tears, while at other times will have you laughing out loud.

For those who enjoyed watching ‘Parenthood’, you’ll no doubt find this series just as satisfying. It’s a bit more serious, but it’s also a very believable show that will pull on your heartstrings and emotions. The show features several plots and subplots and revolves around several different time periods. Somehow, the writers manage to tie all of the different scenes into a universal theme that makes this show stand apart from others. With all of the mediocre TV shows available for viewing, this compelling new drama/comedy leaves the others in the dust.

The bottom line is that this is one of the finest TV series currently on the air. It will undoubtedly be a show that continues to evolve. The plots are intelligently written and the performance by all of the cast are first rate. This is a show with staying power, and one of the few that is worthy of your time.
