TULLY is a funny and frustrating look at motherhood through the eyes of a very tired, borderline post-partum depressed mom, played by Charlize Theron. We first meet Theron when she’s very pregnant, and already very stressed taking care of the two kids she has already. A nervous daughter who is smart but way too hard on herself, and a son who clearly is “on the spectrum” somewhere, and is becoming a real problem at his private school. A school his parents can’t really afford. The baby that’s on its way is clearly seen as a mixed blessing at best by Theron and her somewhat absent husband (played by Ron Livingston.)- RMurray847
I couldn’t wait to watch this movie because I will watch anything with Charlize Theron in it, not to mention Ron Livingston and Mark Duplass, but this movie is absolutely terrible! The acting by everyone is bad, but the plot is even worse. You can see where this movie is going after the first 15-20 minutes. I also thought this movie would be a lot funnier with Ron Livingston and Mark Duplass, but they are barely in the movie and when you do see them, it’s only for a minute or two. You get to see Ron Livingston be a great parent too, all he does is play XBOX. If my dad played videogames all day and night my mom would go crazy too! I definitely don’t suggest this piece of garbage. You will see where this movie is going immediately and is nowhere near what real life is like. I have a friend with severe postpartum depression and is absolutely horrible, but it’s not like in this over dramatized movie.- Rich Whitcomb
A truly heartfelt take on what it means to be a mother, especially a self-sacrificing mother who feels like a failure if everything isn’t “perfect” for her family. The film is played seriously with a light but fun sense of humor and an ending that will make your heart simultaneously weep from joy and sadness.- TeamPurpleCobras
