Vikings season 1[Blu-ray]
DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:
There’s a bloodbath in every episode so I have to fast-forward through that. Otherwise, I’m enjoying seeing how Vikings might have lived. Their “pagan” worship of gods Odin and Thor, etc., reminds me so much of my Catholic school upbringing and praying to various saints (at candle-lit statues). Amazing how so many religions are pretty much the same: a Valhalla (heaven) at life’s end where we will be united with our loved ones and be really happy. One of my favorite actors, Gabriel Byrne, is great to see in the first six episodes. Series is well-written; plot is keeping my attention. The main character has a wife who is as skilled a fighter as he is. Always glad to see strong women. Interesting history (I’ve even been inspired to do some reading on the Vikings, and the show seems to be accurate enough in its depiction.) I have visited friends in Iceland (an eerily beautiful place), and the Icelandic alphabet, language and people sure do bring to mind the Vikings. I’ve finished season 1 and look forward to the next one.-Tessa Kaye
I never thought GOT could be outdone, but this series is top shelf in every way. It’s more intoxicating than your finest whiskey and I can’t stop watching it….every detail is so researched …and all the acting is incredibly natural…you feel like you are living and breathing right alongside the characters. Given that the earlier Vikings had no written word, they lived “on the edges of history” if you will, so all that has been learned has been through meshing tons of material knowledge at dig sites, writings from peoples they either slaughtered or allied with. No one is good or evil, they all have many shades of grey and the viewer’s intelligence is challenged rather than insulted. The only precaution would be that it is very gory, so kids should probably not watch until older.-shoehound
Just started watching Vikings about a week ago as a filler show since all our current must-see TV shows are hold til mid January. Since watching the first episode, we were hooked and now are eager fans watching at least 2 episodes every night to get caught up with current season. Fun to watch, fun to cheer for the raiders from the North. This shows entertains through every facet of humanity and the acting is great. Travis Fimmel as Ragnar is hypnotic with a supporting cast equally so. Inspires you to go back to History class and learn more about the Viking people and their culture. Don’t know of any shows currently inspiring that. Vikings is now added to our list of must-see TV, replacing another that is in its final season. This is definately not filler TV.- L. Gurley
