Wind River [Blu-ray]

DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:

Intense–not everything is factual (I spent every summer going to the Wind River Rez) and they are some of the most patriotic folks in the US. Their Sun Dance lodge is flanked by two American flags and at powwow the veterans are the first ones out dancing. Think it’s important to point that out b/c I’ve never seen a shredded US flag hanging upside down as depicted in the film. Most of the film is shot in Utah and not in Wyoming which is unfortunate b/c the Wind River Range is absolutely stunning and mystifying. However, the story tugs at your heart and that’s why I felt compelled to buy it after seeing it in the theatre. It’s a reminder that the Native Americans still live a hard life after everything they’ve endured in their past. If anything, I hope this film will remind Americans that we have issues in our own backyard that are being completely ignored.-Barstow

There is a reason why this movie has a high stars… it simply deserves them. It is solid on so many levels that overall you are left feeling like you have been sitting in the snow for a few hours with only your underpants on. The pace is even and has a good balance of tension, suspense, action and intrigue but in truth I feel the director was going for something deeper. And it is achieved in the frosty surroundings of the mountainous expanse, the raw, expressionless facade of death and the cold, simple and soft tone of the primary character Cory Lambert. As I said… you are left quite chilled.
Jeremy Renner plays Cory Lambert, a hunter for the Fish & Wildlife department helping Elizabeth Olsen, a young FBI agent investigate the homicide of a young girl on an Indian reservation. As the movie churns on you get background on Renner’s character, from his divorce to his skills as a tracker to the loss of his daughter who was best friends to the girl killed on the reservation. Any more to the story line would be a spoiler alert.
What is most noticeable about this movie is the skillful way that the cold and ice of the scenery start to creep into your skin as you watch it. You can’t help but be overwhelmed by the beautiful but chilling backdrop to the whole story line. Every character you come into contact with seems to be infected with the shear icy desolation of the place. Those that live there are either depressed by, jaded by it or killed by it.
This movie movies at medium pace, carrying you along to each turn ready to share a unique twist that never lets you down. Renner’s character promises you the truth and all the way to the end it never lets you down. What you want when you start watching this movie is justice for the girl and then somewhere in the middle you want justice for Renner’s character… but what you get in the end is indescribable. Rated R for some gore, blood and body parts (morgue), there is also bad language in parts as well as a rape scene.
Taylor Sheridan gets high marks for creating a chilling murder mystery. You will not regret the rental and for Renner fans it is worth the purchase.-James M

With this poignant script Jeremy Renner shines. The film, both filled with action and sadness, distilles the heartache of loss and separation, the brutality of humanity and the powerful emotions that binds true friendship.
I’ve watched this movie four times now, and every time my emotions have been torn by the raw humanity that reveals the base evil capable of man and the pure love that can unite us in times of such brutality.
Powerful film – don’t miss it.-Forevermore
