Batman beyond The complete series

DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:

Great show, but I have a major complaint about this DVD box set. On the back of the box, it clearly lists Season 1 as having English subtitles, while it does not specify whether seasons 2 & 3 have English subtitles. In truth though, *none* of the episodes or special features on these DVDs have any English subtitles at all. That’s very strange, considering that English subtitles are standard for most DVDs. I wonder if buying the series digitally includes the English subtitles, because if so, I’d have to recommend that option, if subtitles are important to you.

Aside from that, the show itself is pretty good. The art style is not ugly, but maybe a bit simplistic, a victim of the cost-cutting trend of its time, where all the human characters have been designed to be drawn as easily as possible with fewer lines. The story lines are also generally fairly simple, but there are definitely a few stand-out episodes here and there. They made a pretty good effort coming up with brand new villains, many of whom are quite good – Inque is my personal favorite. Overall, the show never achieves the magnificent quality of Batman the Animated Series, but it’s still a good enjoyable show for any fan of superhero cartoons.

Special features are actually fairly abundant on these discs, including episode-length commentary tracks, featuring the show creators, for many select episodes, various behind the scenes interviews, and a well made feature-length documentary on the history of DC comics.
