This may be threading on thin ice, but I read an article, a few years ago, that advanced the notion that the average US movie viewer was not capable of understanding the higher concepts of irony, characters that were not black and white (purely good or purely evil), or conflicting concepts in a film. That was the author’s reasoning for why films such as the Dutch masterpiece, The Vanishing, was produced in the US with a completely different ending…because American audiences could not handle the original ending.- T. I saw BR2049 the first night it was screened and 2 more times after that. Tremendous film. Had my complete attention, even during the 3rd viewing. It never felt 164 minutes long. There are others here who have summarized the story well so I won’t bother except to say that it is a great study of what it is to be human and poses questions about how we define the terms ‘living’ and ‘alive’, much like the original did. Are replicants alive or is that exclusive to organic beings? If you’re a fan of the first one you are doing yourself a disservice if you don’t see this one.- J. Gunther

I’d give it 10 stars if I could. It’s funny to see so many people with such bad taste in cinema. I think they were expecting something like a John Woo film or a Bay action/explosion movie with a Top 40 sound track; John singleton referred these types as “Popcorn Movies” (movies for people that dont like to think). This is a movie that requires emotional and intellectual participation.. This is the real deal. Movies aren’t made like this anymore. If you are a fan of CLASSIC cinema than this movie is it. Its not a fast paced, hollow action sequence film for movie zombies with no attention span. There are no slow-mo explosions to make up for a weak, thin and cheap plot line. Silly children, Michael Bay did not make this movie. If you want to cry to someone about this review, try crying to your mother because I do NOT care. Or just show the world what a self absorbed cry baby you really are and leave a complaint to prove me right.- ringedman
